What they need

Position Description

Creative & Content Associate

Reporting To

Managing Manager (Primary) Head of Marketing & Brand (Secondary)

Location

Lyall Bay, Wellington. Full time.

Parrotdog was conceived in 2011 out of a love for good beer by three guys named Matt.  From our brewery in Lyall Bay we continue what they started to do back then - making approachable and award-winning beer.

Intro

Over 15 years, Parrotdog has grown from an indie start-up to one of New Zealand’s largest and most trusted breweries.

Behind the scenes, we’re building an exciting marketing engine, fueled by partnerships and collaborations and driven by a shared vision to become New Zealand’s strongest and most creative beer marketing team.

To date, we’ve built strong organic audiences across both our Parrotdogbeer and Parrotdogbar handles. Now, it’s time to take that to the next level. Over the next 6-12 months our ambition is to ramp up organic engagement, launch on TikTok and invest in paid to help us reach new audiences and achieve long term brand growth. At Parrotdog, marketing is led by creative ambition and backed by just the right amount of science and data.

We’re now looking for our next hire.

This is primarily a creative & content role, with a touch of marketing co-ordination sprinkled in. You’ll report directly to our marketing manager, supported by regular coaching from our Head of Marketing & Brand. This structure gives you a front row seat into the entire function during a period of significant investment.

We’re looking for someone obsessed with culture. Someone who can spot trends, ideate creative concepts, shoot, edit, and wrangle an event all the while keeping tight reins on social performance and reporting.

We work hard and move fast, but have a damn good time out here on the coast in Wellington. We’re open to all backgrounds but make sure you’ve included a link to your portfolio / work so we can see what you can do.

Looking forward to having a beer with you soon.

The Role

The Creative & Content Associate sits at the centre of Parrotdog’s organic & paid social content and is responsible for helping shape, capture and communicate the world of both Parrotdog and Parrotdog Bar.

This role offers the creative freedom to ideate, shoot, and edit in-house content for both organic and paid socials, turning new ideas into compelling creative storytelling. Working closely with our Marketing Manager and Head of Marketing & Brand, you will build AI workflows and use performance data to refine your approach, iterate on what works, and drive creative quality and performance. Above all, you will live and breathe social media — you'll be on top of emerging trends and know what makes content feel native to each platform.

We're open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, including agency, in-house or freelance, as long as you bring creativity, drive, and proven experience ideating, capturing and editing short-form video that performs.

What you’ll own

Creative Concept Development The ideas stuff

  • Creative ideation: lead all social ideation bringing new ideas, concepts, trends, and formats to the table weekly that are informed by the overall Parrotdog brand strategy.
  • Iterating winning concepts: Test and iterate variations from winning hooks, angles and briefs, with success defined by key social engagement and growth metrics.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with the Sales team to align messaging, targeting, and objectives.

Content Capture The production stuff

  • In-house shoots: Own briefing and creative direction for in-house video and image shoots for paid social end-to-end as needed.
  • Shooting content: Film lo-fi content, B-roll, and take lo-fi photographs.
  • Directing talent: Direct customers, team members and creators on camera to ensure the content aligns with the brief.
  • Content library: Build, maintain and optimise an easy to use content library and file all projects regularly to ensure efficiency.

Video Editing & Iteration The post-production stuff

  • Creative shooting & editing: Turn owned, creator and shared content briefs into high-performing short-form video for Meta, TikTok or other social platforms, using strong hooks, pacing and storytelling.
  • Repurposing content: Adapt and repurpose existing content into multiple creative ad concepts, formats and variations.
  • Platform optimisation: Optimise every ad edit for the evolving trends, specs, formats and conventions of each platform to ensure it performs.
  • Trend insights: Stay across emerging formats, creators, and cultural trends to inform editing and content strategy.
  • Performance literacy: Track results and use performance insights to refine concept ideation and editing to improve key metrics.

Community & marketing support The event & trade stuff

  • Design support: Produce, design, and deliver both digital and printed marketing and communications materials for the Parrotdog brand, in line with brand guidelines.
  • Copywriting: Develop written copy for Parrotdog brand marketing materials and social communications, championing Parrotdog’s tone of voice and brand personality.
  • E-Commerce: Work with the Sales team, Marketing team, and Hospitality GM to maintain the website, update the online store with new products, and generate content for the monthly retail mailer.
  • Trade collateral: Work with the Marketing Manager and Head of Sales to provide accurate materials for trade promotions and trade events, including sales collateral.
  • Event Management: Support Marketing Manager across key consumer events, with a primary focus on all event content creation.

AI & Creative Systems The working smarter not harder stuff

  • AI automations: Build and improve automations that scale creative production, editing and output, while maintaining quality and efficiency.
  • Process improvement: Develop systems and improve processes that increase editing speed and quality.
  • Tool adoption: Actively test new tools and techniques and bring what works into the team's operations.

Health & Safety

  • Follow H&S procedures as directed by Parrotdog management.
  • Report hazards, near misses, and incidents in the workplace.
  • Undertake health & safety training.
  • Keep yourself safe and do nothing through action or inaction that may harm others.

What you’ll need

  • Proven experience producing short-form video content e.g. agency, brand, in-house or freelance
  • Strong creative and visual judgement, with high standards and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to edit short-form video that performs, with proficiency in CapCut and/or Adobe Premiere Pro (or similar)
  • Experience designing and developing assets in Figma
  • Proven ability to work at volume and speed, turning around multiple finished edits in a day without compromising on quality
  • Confident shooting high-quality phone camera footage independently and directing people on camera
  • Solid understanding of digital marketing, including how creative supports broader marketing and performance objectives
  • Deep understanding of TikTok, Instagram and Meta, including platform behaviours, audiences and content formats
  • Demonstrated use of AI as a core part of the editing workflow, with a clear view on where it lifts quality and where it does not
  • Curious and innovative nature, with a strong interest in emerging technologies, platforms, formats and social media trends
  • High ownership, strong prioritisation, and comfort working independently in a fast-moving environment
  • Collaborative and coachable way of working, acting on feedback quickly to keep review cycles short
  • A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to get your hands dirty
  • Genuine alignment with Parrotdog’s mission, vision and values
