Role Overview

The Content Development Lead at ReelShow owns the studio’s content development function, from concept evaluation and greenlighting through the creation and approval of production-ready story packages. The role develops the Content Development team, guides producers in turning promising ideas into high-performing and fully realized stories, and serves as the final QA/QC authority for content entering production.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Content Development team, including Content Producers and Contributing Content Producers.
• Establish and maintain the studio’s content development, editorial, and production-readiness standards.
• Evaluate concepts and determine which ideas are greenlit for further development and full story-package creation.
• Guide Content Producers in developing promising concepts into high-performing, complete, and detailed story packages.
• Provide clear, specific, and actionable feedback on concepts, story packages, scripts, and other content materials.
• Review, refine, and approve story concepts, series concepts, scripts, and production packages.
• Serve as the QA/QC owner for all Content Development output.
• Ensure approved content is complete, coherent, production-ready, and aligned with the studio’s content strategy and intended audience.
• Maintain narrative consistency across characters, storylines, series bibles, episodes, and supporting production materials.
• Identify and resolve narrative, structural, continuity, pacing, and production-readiness issues before content enters the production pool.
• Coach and develop Content Producers and contributing talent through ongoing editorial and creative feedback.
• Manage the content development pipeline and ensure sufficient production-ready material is available to support AI Production requirements.
• Collaborate with the AI Production Lead and Production Operations Manager to resolve content-related production issues and improve the handoff into AI Production.
• Identify recurring content-development issues and work with the Knowledge Manager to improve processes, standards, and documentation.

Required Capabilities

• Strong experience in content development, screenwriting, series development, creative production, or a comparable field.
• Strong understanding of narrative structure, character development, dialogue, pacing, episodic storytelling, and audience engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to identify promising concepts and develop them into compelling, commercially viable or high-performing content.
• Ability to take an early-stage idea and guide it through concept → development → story package → production-ready script.
• Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.
• Ability to provide clear, specific, actionable, and constructive feedback to writers and producers.
• Ability to balance creative ambition with production feasibility.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team-development skills.
• Ability to establish and enforce consistent creative and editorial standards.
• Experience working in fast-paced, technology-enabled, or high-volume content environments.

Core Accountability

The Content Development Lead is accountable for deciding what concepts move forward, developing them into complete and high-performing story packages, and ensuring everything entering AI Production is production-ready.
