Continuous Improvement Manager

The Continuous Improvement Manager is responsible for leading site-wide Operational Excellence and continuous improvement initiatives across Engineering, supporting manufacturing, laboratories, utilities, facilities, automation, maintenance, reliability and compliance functions.

• The role provides dedicated ownership, structure and leadership for strategic improvement

programs, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and aligned with business

objectives.

• The role acts as the central driver of continuous improvement across Engineering,

improving project delivery, cross-functional collaboration, governance, accountability, reliability, asset performance and benefits realization.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence Leadership

• Lead Engineering Operational Excellence and continuous improvement programs across the site.
• Translate business priorities into a structured improvement roadmap with clear scope, milestones, owners and success measures.
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement, problem solving and data-driven decision making within Engineering.

Project Delivery & Governance

• Manage cross-functional improvement projects including Spare Parts Management, FMEA

implementation, SAP PM deployment, reliability programs and Engineering governance improvements.

• Establish project plans, charters, schedules, action logs, risk registers and benefit tracking mechanisms.
• Ensure consistent project governance, escalation and decision-making forums are in place.
• Track project performance, risks, dependencies and benefit realization against agreed targets.

Stakeholder Alignment

• Partner with Facilities, Plant Engineering, Automation, Manufacturing, Quality, Compliance, Maintenance and Reliability stakeholders to deliver sustainable results.
• Facilitate stakeholder alignment, workshops, project reviews and decision-making meetings.
• Remove barriers to execution and ensure accountable owners are assigned for actions and deliverables

Performance Management & KPI Reporting

• Define, monitor and report Engineering performance indicators linked to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, reliability and asset productivity.
• Use KPI trends, value stream mapping, RCA outputs and performance data to identify improvement opportunities.
• Prepare performance updates for Engineering leadership and support Tier review processes where required.

Reliability, Maintenance & Asset Improvement

• Support implementation of maintenance and reliability best practices across Engineering.
• Lead or support FMEA, criticality assessments, RCA activities and risk-based improvement initiatives.
• Drive improvement initiatives that reduce unplanned downtime, improve planned maintenance effectiveness and strengthen asset lifecycle management.

GMP, Compliance & Safety

• Ensure continuous improvement activities are designed and executed in compliance with GMP, Data Integrity, EHS and regulatory requirements.
• Support inspection readiness by strengthening Engineering governance, documentation, action tracking and audit preparedness.
• Embed compliant change control, CAPA and risk management practices into improvement project execution.

People Leadership & Capability Development

• Provide coaching and guidance to project teams, Engineering SMEs and junior continuous improvement resources.
• Build continuous improvement capability through structured methods, standard work, problem-solving routines and knowledge sharing.
• Support development pathways for future Engineering, Reliability, Maintenance and Operational Excellence leaders.

Specifics Of The Role

• Establish and lead a dedicated Engineering continuous improvement function to accelerate delivery of strategic initiatives and reduce the burden on functional Engineering leaders.
• Own and coordinate priority initiatives such as Spare Parts Management, FMEA implementation, SAP PM deployment, reliability programs, Engineering governance improvements and operational excellence projects.
• Create transparent project governance, action tracking, risk management, benefit realization and performance reporting across Engineering improvement programs.
• Expected outcomes include accelerated project delivery, improved cross-functional collaboration, faster realization of cost-saving opportunities, improved reliability and asset performance, stronger governance and increased focus of Engineering leaders on core technical and operational responsibilities.

Minimum Education And Experience Required For The Role

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Operations Management, Business, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree or Lean Six Sigma certification is preferred.
• Experience leading continuous improvement, operational excellence, engineering, maintenance, reliability or project delivery initiatives in a regulated manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of project management, stakeholder management, KPI reporting, RCA, FMEA, risk management and change control principles.
• Knowledge of GMP, Data Integrity, EHS and regulatory expectations applicable to Engineering activities is preferred.
• Experience with SAP PM, CMMS, maintenance systems, reliability programs or Engineering governance frameworks is an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams, facilitate decision making and deliver measurable business outcomes.
