Contract AWS Developer — AI Agents & Workflow Orchestration

Location: Remote — with overlap in US time zones (Eastern, Central, or Pacific) for huddles and reviews

About the work

We’re building AI-powered automations on AWS to run our operations. Our workflows are primarily deterministic — predictable, low-cost, fast — with AI nodes used only where interpretation, classification, or drafting is actually needed. A governance layer sits on top; domain agents run underneath against a shared toolset. Some workflows run fully automated; others are human-in-the-loop, where the workflow drafts and a person reviews before anything executes. We’re also building an internal portal to run our operations, migrating off our current no-code database onto a high-performance PostgreSQL backend.

What you’ll do

• Build and deploy agents/workflows in our AWS environment
• Design deterministic workflows that call AI nodes only where interpretation or analysis is needed
• Build both fully automated workflows and human-in-the-loop tasks (workflow drafts → human review/approval → execute)
• Build and migrate our operational data onto a PostgreSQL backend for the internal portal
• Wire tool integrations and guardrails (scoped access, review gates, kill-switch)
• Optimize infrastructure, AI, and workflows for performance and cost efficiency
• Ship clean, documented, testable builds via our CI pipeline

Must have

• Strong AWS, serverless-first: Bedrock, Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, IAM, CI/CD
• Experience orchestrating workflows/pipelines with selective AI/LLM steps (familiarity with agent frameworks like Claude Agent SDK, OpenAI Agents SDK, or AWS Strands a plus)
• PostgreSQL — schema design, migrations, and query optimization
• Proven work shipping AI-driven automations in production
• Experience building integrations against third-party APIs (REST/webhooks)
• Track record of cost-efficient, well-architected infrastructure
• Reliable overlap with US working hours (Eastern to Pacific) for huddles and reviews
