What they need
Contract Electronics Engineer (Inside IR35)
Location: Falkirk | Hybrid (minimum 3 days on site)
Rate: £60-80 per hour
Initial Duration: 6 months (likely to extend)
We’re supporting a client in the medical device space who are looking for an experienced contract Electronics Engineer to join their team in Scotland. The initial contract is 6 months, with a view to extending, and the start date is early January.
This is a busy, hands-on role on a complex, multi-disciplinary product. You’ll take ownership of the electronics workstream, spot problems early and work out how to solve them. The product needs someone who can hold a system-level view while still getting stuck into the detailed design, and ideally someone comfortable around embedded, low-level code too. You’ll often be working with project teams led by people from non-electronics backgrounds, so you’ll be turning broad input into clear technical plans, speaking up in meetings and managing your own workload with very little hand-holding.
It’s a good fit if you like variety and autonomy, and want to work on regulated hardware where the engineering has to be right. The client is also open to strong contractors staying on longer term, with the potential of a conversion to perm if headcount grows in the future.
What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of electronics design experience, with a strong analogue background across power conversion, current measurement and high-accuracy control circuitry
- Fluent in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer
- A practical approach to verification and test, taking designs from prototype through to proven performance
- Real-world experience designing for EMC, and getting products through compliance
- A background in a regulated sector (medical, automotive, aerospace or similar), and the discipline that comes with it
- Hands-on, self-starting and happy to take initiative without waiting to be told
- Clear communication, with the confidence to explain technical decisions to non-technical colleagues and stakeholders
- Right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available), and the ability to be on site in Scotland at least 3 days a week
Also Valued
- A system-level mindset, and an understanding of how electronics decisions affect the wider product
- Exposure to embedded or low-level firmware
- A track record of mentoring or supporting other engineers
If you want a role with real ownership on a challenging, safety-conscious product, this could be a great next contract.
