Your impact

We have an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join the dynamic legal department of a major engineering, construction, and technical services company. The opportunity is for an individual with 4 to 8 years of post-qualification experience. The candidate(s) should have first rate academic qualifications and practical experience (the latter gained either in-house or in private practice) preferentially in the Infrastructure or Engineering/Construction/Services sector and must be keen to be challenged in a fast-paced, commercial environment. In return we will give exposure to a wide range of projects across the business and an unparalleled opportunity for developing an in-house career in an excellent working environment and with opportunities to travel and work in other geographies.

About Jacobs

Jacobs leads the global professional services sector delivering solutions for a more connected, sustainable world. Providing a full spectrum of services including scientific, technical, professional and construction- and program-management. Our 50,000+ employees in 400+ locations around the world serve a broad range of companies and organisations, including industrial, commercial, and government clients across multiple markets and geographies. In North America, we have been involved in some of the biggest and most challenging projects, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to the region’s most critical issues, from access to clean air and safe water, healthcare, and safeguarding mobility. That’s because Jacobs is much more than just a traditional engineering company.

Legal Team

Worldwide, the group's legal team consists of around 150+ employees and 15+ of these are based in India. The legal team works closely with our sales and operations colleagues and with management at all levels. This role is supporting People Places & Solutions Line of Business throughout the US region.

We are looking to recruit a qualified lawyer with 4 to 8 years of post-qualification experience to support the P&PS North America legal team and based out of our Gurugram office.

THE ROLE:

Jacobs is a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities. The roles on offer are immensely varied and challenging and will give the successful candidate the chance to make a real contribution to an exciting range of legal and commercial work.

Reporting to the US attorney responsible for design for design-build projects within the Building & Infrastructure Americas legal team, the successful candidate will support the P&PS Americas team remotely with the following tasks:

  • Take responsibility for a wide range of construction and services contracts, from bid stage to negotiation and completion, including contracts with clients, joint venture agreements, guarantees, sub-contracts and confidentiality agreements.

  • Streamlined contracts process (task orders under an existing framework)

  • Deviations from standard terms

  • Assist with some contract management

  • Drafting/reviewing of letters (exclusivity, non-exclusive sub-consultant)

Preferred (but not required) International experience:

  • Experience with state and local public procurement procedures

  • Experience with design perspectives of design-build programs

  • Experience with joint ventures and LLCs, including counsel to corresponding boards of directors

  • Experience with professional liability, general liability, pollution, and builder’s risk insurance

  • Experience with bid protests

  • Experience with contracts database management

  • Experience with collecting and analysing KPIs and other contracts data

Here's what you'll need

The successful candidate will be a qualified lawyer with significant relevant experience, including specifically with design roles for design-build projects. The successful candidate will have a strong academic record and must have trained with a leading law firm or well-respected in-house team. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to identify risk, good commercial awareness, clear and effective communication style, and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
