What they need

The panels we build go aboard U.S. Navy ships. They run critical shipboard systems and machinery, where a loose crimp is not an option.

We're hiring at two levels. If you already wire control panels come in at Level II and own builds from schematic to test. If you have hands-on electrical experience and want to grow into that, start at Level I and we'll train you.

About Fairmount Automation

Fairmount has supplied critical control systems to the U.S. Navy for 30 years. That includes controllers for the catapult systems that launch aircraft from carriers, refueling stations that prep aircraft for missions and stowing, as well as controls for magazine sprinkling systems, vertical launch systems, emergency diesel generators, cooling and refrigeration systems, and many other critical shipboard systems.

We're not just a build-to-print shop. We design and manufacture our own rugged, cyber-secure controllers: Chameleon+ PLCs, FAC-2100+ process controllers, touchscreens and the Overwatch fire detection system. As a panel wirer/assembler here, you'll build systems around equipment we engineer in-house, alongside the engineers who designed it.

Everything is assembled and tested in our West Conshohocken facility.

Two ways in

We'll place you at the level that matches what you can do today. Level I wirers move to Level II by demonstrating the skills below, not by waiting out a clock.

What you'll do

  • Build and wire control panels and enclosures from schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly drawings
  • Lay out and mount components: PLCs, relays, breakers, contactors, terminal blocks and power supplies
  • Cut, strip, crimp, solder, route, bundle and label wire to military and customer standards
  • Check your work with meters and continuity tests, and help troubleshoot during panel test
  • Handle ESD-sensitive electronics correctly and follow documented work instructions
  • Flag problems early and work directly with engineering to resolve them
  • Keep a clean, organized and safe work area; lift up to 30 lb

What we're looking for

Everyone:

  • Careful, consistent work. You check your own work before anyone else has to.
  • Reliability and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to follow defined procedures, and to speak up when something doesn't look right
  • Comfort with basic electrical concepts and hand and power tools
  • U.S. citizenship (required for our defense work)

Level II:

  • About 2+ years building or wiring industrial control panels (or equivalent hands-on experience in electrician or mechanic role)
  • Can read schematics and wiring diagrams and build from them with little supervision
  • Experience with meters and continuity or functional testing

Level I – we value experience like:

  • Electrician's helper or apprentice
  • Wire harness, cable or circuit board assembly
  • Trade school electrical, electronics, HVAC or automation programs
  • Military electrical or electronics roles (Navy EM, ET, IC and similar)
  • Any hands-on work that proves you're precise and like building things

What we offer

  • $20–$28/hr depending on level, with a clear path from Level I to Level II
  • Day shift, Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week. Overtime available at 1.5X base pay.
  • Health and dental insurance, 401(k) with matching contributions, and paid time off
  • Paid training toward IPC soldering and wire-harness certifications, which stay with you for your career
  • Work on defense systems that matter, in a small shop where engineers know your name
  • U.S. citizenship is required because our systems are built for the U.S. military.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental insurance
  • Flexible spending account
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Ability to Commute:

  • West Conshohocken, PA 19428 (Required)

Work Location: In person
