Role & responsibilities

• Direct real-time operation of the blast furnace via DCS/SCADA and process control systems.
• Monitor and regulate core blast parameters: hot blast volume, blast pressure, blast temperature, oxygen enrichment, and moisture additions.
• Manage auxiliary fuel injection rates (Pulverized Coal Injection [PCI], natural gas, or oil) to minimize fuel rate while maintaining thermal stability.
• Supervise burden distribution charging matrices (chute transmission angles, ring patterns, ore-to-coke ratios) to optimize gas flow and utilization ($\eta\text{CO}$).
• Track hot metal thermal state, targeting precise chemical composition (silicon, sulfur, phosphorus) and tap temperatures while preventing chilled-hearth or overheating scenarios.

Operational Stability & Troubleshooting

• Interpret real-time diagnostic data: shaft skin thermocouples, in-burden temperature probes, acoustic pyrometry, top-gas analyzers, and stave cooling heat loads.
• Detect and correct operational anomalies promptly to prevent burden hanging, slips, channeling, gas bypass, scaffold formation, and tuyere burnouts.
• Manage emergency trip protocols, cold blast isolation, blow-down, damping, and re-blowing procedures in compliance with metallurgical operating standards.

Cross-Functional Coordination

• Cast House: Coordinate tapping schedules, liquid level forecasts in the hearth, drill/mud-gun readiness, and runner maintenance with shift casthouse supervisors.
• Hot Stove Area: Oversee stove changeover cycles, dome temperature limits, combustion gas ratios, and waste-gas heat recovery systems.
• Raw Material & Stockhouse: Ensure precise charging weights, moisture compensations, screen efficiencies, and bin levels for sinter, pellets, lump ore, and coke.
• Gas Cleaning & Energy Systems: Monitor top gas pressure, dust catcher/cyclone operations, scrubber/bag filter differentials, and top-gas recovery turbine (TRT) inputs.
• Maintenance & Instrumentation: Rapidly flag instrument drift, thermocouple failures, valve actuator stalls, and cooling circuit alarms to mechanical/electrical maintenance teams.
