About the Opportunity

Are you calm under pressure, comfortable juggling multiple priorities and ready to take on a new challenge? Apple Valley News Now, the local ABC affiliate serving Washington’s Yakima and Tri-Cities communities, is looking for a Control Room Technician / Television Studio team member to help bring our daily newscasts and entertainment programming to life.

This is a vital behind-the-scenes role. You’ll work with a collaborative team to ensure our broadcasts are accurate, polished and delivered to viewers on time. From master control and studio cameras to graphics and newscast directing, you’ll play an important part in telling the stories that connect our audiences with their communities.

If you want to begin or grow a career in television broadcasting, we’ll provide the training and support you need to succeed.

Why Join Apple Valley News Now?

We’re a family-owned, people-first company that values your work, your ideas and your life outside the station. You’ll have opportunities to learn multiple areas of broadcast operations while working alongside experienced professionals who want to see you grow.

You’ll also enjoy living in Washington’s beautiful Tri-Cities region, where thriving communities, great restaurants, outdoor recreation and scenic destinations are all close by—without the long commute found in many larger markets.

What You’ll Do

No two days in the control room are exactly the same. In this role, you will:

  • Monitor and operate master control to keep programming running smoothly and in compliance with station and FCC requirements.
  • Direct or assist with live newscasts.
  • Operate studio cameras, graphics and other production equipment.
  • Monitor the technical quality of on-air programming.
  • Troubleshoot technical and operational issues quickly and calmly.
  • Coordinate with News, Engineering, Programming and other departments.
  • Follow broadcast schedules, logs and established operating procedures.
  • Maintain focus, accuracy and quality throughout the broadcast day.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for a dependable, engaged and creative team member with an interest in television broadcasting. Previous television production experience is helpful, but it is not required—we are willing to train the right person.

A successful candidate will bring:

  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new technology.
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and a solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage shifting priorities.
  • The ability to perform basic math quickly and accurately.
  • The ability to lift and carry 40 pounds or more.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including various shifts and days of the week, when needed for station operations or emergencies.
  • A collaborative attitude and a genuine interest in broadcasting.

What You’ll Receive

You’ll join a supportive workplace where co-workers and managers value your contributions, time and perspective. We’ll provide hands-on training and the resources you need to do your job well. You’ll also work with people who care deeply about serving our viewers and communities.

Pay range: $17.75–$19 per hour

Benefits

We offer eligible employees and their families a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Medical, dental, vision and prescription coverage
  • Life and long-term disability insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Flexible spending and health savings accounts
  • 401(k)
  • Employee referral program
  • Paid time off, including vacation time equivalent to up to 80 hours per year depending on start date
  • One hour of paid sick time for every 40 hours worked
  • Two personal days
  • Nine paid holidays

Ready to Get Behind the Scenes?

If you’re ready to build valuable skills, work with a great team and help keep our local broadcasts on the air, we’d like to hear from you.
