Job Description

We are seeking a Gas Turbine Control Software Engineer responsible for the design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of control software for gas turbine systems. The role will work closely with controls, electrical, mechanical, and field engineering teams to develop and validate turbine control solutions used in power generation and industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and maintain gas turbine control software and control logic.
  • Develop turbine control functions for startup, shutdown, speed/load control, fuel control, protection, trips, and operating sequences.
  • Translate SAMA diagrams, P&IDs, process narratives, and control requirements into DCS control blocks, logic, and HMI screens.
  • Develop and troubleshoot control logic for turbine auxiliary systems, including fuel systems, lube oil, control oil, hydraulic systems, turning gear, cooling systems, and related equipment.
  • Develop and implement HMI/SCADA displays, alarms, interlocks, permissives, and operator controls.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) using simulation or closed-loop simulation environments.
  • Perform software testing, debugging, validation, and integration of turbine control systems.
  • Support commissioning, startup, field troubleshooting, and system optimization at customer sites.
  • Analyze control-system issues and perform root-cause analysis to identify and implement corrective solutions.
  • Work with controls and electrical engineers to integrate PLC/DCS, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, valves, and protection systems.
  • Review technical specifications, control narratives, functional requirements, drawings, and customer documentation.
  • Support customer demonstrations, technical reviews, FAT activities, commissioning, and operator/field-engineer training.
  • Develop and maintain software documentation, test procedures, configuration documentation, and engineering records.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, customers, and field personnel throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience developing or supporting gas turbine control systems, turbine controls, turbomachinery controls, or industrial control systems.
  • Strong understanding of control theory, control logic, industrial automation, and turbine operation.
  • Experience with DCS, PLC, HMI, or SCADA control systems.
  • Experience interpreting SAMA diagrams, P&IDs, control narratives, and functional specifications.
  • Experience with software development, control logic development, testing, debugging, or system integration.
  • Experience with FAT, simulation, commissioning, startup, or field troubleshooting of control systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Technical Skills

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • C / C++
  • Python
  • MATLAB / Simulink
  • PLC/DCS programming
  • HMI/SCADA
  • Control algorithms
  • Turbine governor and speed/load control
  • Fuel and valve control
  • Trip and protection logic
  • Hydraulic/servo systems
  • LVDT and turbine instrumentation
  • Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, TCP/IP
  • Closed-loop simulation and automated testing

Preferred Experience

  • Direct experience with gas turbine control software or turbine control systems.
  • Experience with power generation, combined-cycle, simple-cycle, or industrial gas turbines.
  • Experience with GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Solar Turbines, Rolls-Royce, or similar turbine platforms.
  • Experience developing or modifying turbine control logic and algorithms.
  • Experience with closed-loop simulation and FAT.
  • Experience supporting gas turbine commissioning and startup.
  • Experience working with turbine protection, overspeed protection, fuel control, lube oil systems, control oil systems, and turbine auxiliaries.
  • Experience working directly with customers and field engineering teams.
  • Willingness to travel for commissioning, startup, FAT, and customer support.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in gas turbine controls, turbine control software, turbomachinery controls, or industrial automation, with the ability to move between control-system development, software/logic testing, simulation, FAT, and field commissioning.

Candidates with backgrounds in gas turbines, steam turbines, combined-cycle power plants, turbomachinery, power generation controls, or advanced industrial control systems may also be considered where they have strong turbine/control-system experience.
