What they need

Control Systems Development Engineer | Aerospace | Leicester | Up to £45k

Our client is a long-established aerospace manufacturer in Leicester and part of a global engineering group with sites around the world. They make critical precision fasteners for the world's leading aircraft and aero-engine manufacturers. Their large site does everything in-house, from forging and machining to heat treatment and testing. Aerospace is booming and their order book is full.

About the Role

They need a Control Systems Development Engineer to make that operation smarter, faster and more reliable.

Responsibilities

What you'll actually be doing

  • Upgrading legacy control systems and electrical panels and bringing older kit up to date
  • Programming robots to automate manual processes
  • Building digital machine monitoring and dashboards that turn shop-floor data into decisions
  • Leading root cause investigations (FMEA, 5 Whys) when equipment fails, and fixing the cause, not just the symptom
  • Designing backup and bypass solutions so production keeps moving
  • Shaping capital projects for new equipment and setting best practice across the site
  • Acting as the go-to controls expert for maintenance, projects, IT and continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience

Required Skills

What you'll bring

  • Strong Siemens S7 and Allen Bradley PLC experience (Mitsubishi and Eaton is a bonus)
  • Experience upgrading legacy controls and integrating equipment
  • Confidence with sensors, instrumentation and electrical drawings in CAD
  • Some data analytics: you can build a dashboard as well as read one
  • A track record of driving continuous improvement, and enjoying it

Preferred Skills

  • Mitsubishi and Eaton experience

Pay range and compensation package

Why this one?

  • Up to £45,000, Monday to Friday days. No shifts.
  • An outstanding culture where engineers are trusted, backed and heard
  • Your own dedicated training and development plan to grow your career
  • A booming industry with exceptional opportunities to progress across a global engineering group
  • A real development role. You'll be improving the plant, not just firefighting.
  • Robotics, automation and data on safety-critical aerospace work
  • Strong benefits package
