Control Systems Engineer

Join our team as a Control Systems Engineer and be at the forefront of designing, developing, and optimizing complex electrical and automation systems. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in electrical engineering, system design, and containerized industrial software to create reliable control solutions for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Power Plant Controllers (PPC). Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency, safety, and performance of our advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS), driving technological progress and operational excellence in the renewable energy sector.

Responsibilities

• EMS/PPC Design: Design Power Plant Control logic to manage frequency regulation, voltage support, and peak shaving for utility-scale BESS.
• PLC and Edge Development: Design and maintain robust control logic within CODESYS and develop detailed control architectures utilizing SoC and programmable logic controllers.
• SCADA and Visualization: Design high-performance HMI and data dashboards using Ignition (Perspective/Vision).
• Edge Orchestration: Design and manage edge computing workloads and clusters using K3s (lightweight Kubernetes) and Docker.
• Integration and Communication: Design and troubleshoot industrial protocol interfaces including Modbus TCP/RTU and OPC UA.
• Automation and Firmware: Implement software solutions in Python and C++ for data processing, automated testing, and custom EMS middleware.
• Hardware Integration: Design and analyze electrical schematics using SolidWorks to ensure seamless integration of hardware components and BESS infrastructure.
• Testing and Validation: Conduct root cause analysis on system failures using debugging tools such as oscilloscopes and signal processing techniques; perform simulations to validate design concepts before deployment.
• Project Management: Collaborate with teams to develop project schedules, manage milestones, and ensure timely delivery of control system components.
• Compliance and Standards: Engage in system design reviews and documentation to maintain compliance with industry standards such as NEC and NERC/CIP.

Experience

• Industrial Automation: Proven experience in CODESYS (IEC 61131-3) and Inductive Automation Ignition.
• DevOps and Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Docker containerization and K3s/Kubernetes cluster design and management.
• Programming: Proficiency in Python for backend services and scripting, along with C++ or MATLAB for control algorithm development.
• Protocols: Deep understanding of Modbus memory mapping and OPC UA information modeling.
• Electrical Design: Experience working with CAD software like SolidWorks or AutoCAD for mechanical-electrical integration and schematic design.
• System Engineering: Knowledge of BESS architecture, EMS logic, and Power Plant Control (PPC) requirements.
• Troubleshooting: Strong troubleshooting skills including root cause analysis using diagnostic tools like oscilloscopes or ohmmeters.
• Hardware Knowledge: Familiarity with SoC/ARM-based systems, microcontrollers, and signal processing for sensor data interpretation.
• Regulatory Awareness: Understanding of manufacturing standards, NEC regulations, and industrial cybersecurity best practices.
• Leadership: Ability to manage project schedules effectively while coordinating cross-disciplinary teams to meet project milestones.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
