About Founders Fence

Founders Fence is a growing fencing and building-materials company specializing in temporary fencing, ornamental fencing, chain link, and related products.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to oversee the company’s accounting and financial operations. This is not strictly a corporate management position—we need someone who is comfortable managing the financial side of the business while also being willing to work directly in the books when necessary.

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting and bookkeeping experience, excellent Excel skills, and experience working with inventory, purchasing, freight, costing, A/R, A/P, and cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

· Oversee all day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping functions

· Manage and review Accounts Receivable (A/R) and Accounts Payable (A/P)

· Monitor customer aging and oversee collection of past-due accounts

· Manage weekly and monthly cash-flow forecasting

· Monitor incoming customer payments against upcoming company obligations

· Oversee bank and credit card reconciliations

· Review and approve vendor payments

· Maintain accurate general ledger accounts

· Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports

· Review Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements

· Track gross profit and margins by product, customer, and transaction

· Monitor inventory values and inventory adjustments

· Oversee product costing, including purchase price, freight, duties, tariffs, and other landed costs

· Review sales margins and identify transactions falling below company margin requirements

· Assist management with pricing and profitability analysis

· Monitor customer credit limits and payment terms

· Manage customer deposits and payment schedules

· Review purchase orders, vendor invoices, and receiving documentation

· Work closely with sales, purchasing, warehouse, and operations teams

· Assist with payroll reporting and employee-related accounting

· Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial projections

· Identify financial discrepancies and implement improved accounting controls

· Assist ownership with financial planning and business decisions

· Coordinate with outside CPA, tax professionals, banks, and insurance providers

· Ensure accounting records are accurate and prepared for year-end reporting

Qualifications

· 5+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or Controller-level experience

· Strong hands-on bookkeeping background

· Strong knowledge of A/R, A/P, general ledger, and account reconciliation

· Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements

· Strong Microsoft Excel skills

· Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar systems

· Experience with inventory accounting and product costing strongly preferred

· Understanding of cash-flow management and financial forecasting

· Excellent attention to detail

· Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

· Ability to work directly with company ownership and senior management

· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

· Construction, manufacturing, distribution, fencing, or building-material experience preferred

· Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

The Person We’re Looking For

We need someone who understands that being a Controller in a growing company means being hands-on.

You should be equally comfortable reviewing a P&L with ownership, building a cash-flow forecast in Excel, investigating an incorrect invoice, reviewing customer aging, checking product costs, or helping resolve an accounting discrepancy.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the numbers and can provide management with a clear and accurate picture of the company’s financial position.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $90,000–$120,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

This is a full-time, in-office position. This is not a remote position.
