In-House Controller

Location: In-Office
Employment Type: Full-Time
Industry: Alternative Business Funding / Financial Services

We are a growing alternative business funding company seeking an experienced In-House Controller to oversee our accounting, financial reporting, cash management, and financial controls.

This is a hands-on role for a CPA with 3–5 years of accounting and finance experience who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Experience in lending, Merchant Cash Advance (MCA), specialty finance, fintech, or a related financial services industry is preferred but not required.

The Controller will work closely with ownership and senior management and will be responsible for maintaining accurate financials, monitoring funding activity, and providing management with clear visibility into the financial health of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the company's day-to-day accounting and financial operations
  • Maintain accurate books and ensure timely month-end and year-end closes
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements
  • Manage and reconcile operating, funding, and other bank accounts
  • Track funding activity, payments, payoffs, renewals, defaults, and outstanding receivables
  • Reconcile funding activity and ensure transactions are accurately reflected in the general ledger
  • Monitor cash positions and prepare cash-flow forecasts
  • Track revenue, expenses, commissions, cost of capital, and profitability
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense reporting
  • Establish and maintain strong accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Coordinate with outside accountants, tax professionals, auditors, banks, and other financial partners
  • Assist management with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Produce management reports and KPIs to help leadership evaluate company performance
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and financial controls as the company grows

Qualifications

  • CPA required
  • 3–5 years of professional accounting/finance experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Lending or financial services experience preferred, but not required
  • MCA, alternative lending, specialty finance, commercial lending, or fintech experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the company's accounting function
  • Comfortable working directly with ownership and senior management in a fast-paced environment

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a strong accountant who can take ownership of the company's financial operations while developing a deep understanding of our funding business.

While prior lending or MCA experience is beneficial, it is not required. We are open to an experienced CPA with a strong accounting foundation who is capable of learning the industry and understanding the financial mechanics of our business.

Why Join Us

This is an opportunity to take ownership of the accounting and financial reporting function within a growing funding company. The right candidate will work directly with leadership and play an important role in building and improving the company's financial infrastructure as we continue to scale.
