Role scope

• Own the Books. Own cash in and cash out, including payables, receivables, & cash management. Maintain detailed and accurate records. Run a monthly close that is fast, accurate, and efficient.
• Build the accounting foundation. Design and implement our accounting processes, controls, and GAAP accounting policies for a company that builds and operates physical infrastructure. That includes project accounting for our site and data center builds, covering construction in progress, capitalization, depreciation, and cost tracking by project, so every dollar of capital spend is traceable.
• Design and implement our accounting system. Lead the build and implementation of our accounting software, and automate the accounting processes that do not need a person.
• Prepare for and manage the audit. Keep the books audit-ready, own the auditor relationship, and run the audit process from planning to sign-off.
• Build the accounting team. Start hands-on, then hire and lead the accounting team as the company grows.

What we're looking for

Treat this list as a guide. Great people rarely check every box, so if you see yourself in most of it, apply and tell us what you would bring to the role.

• You live in Houston or will relocate before your start date. This role is on-site.
• You have 10+ years of accounting experience, including time as a controller or assistant controller.
• You have built out the accounting function and process of a company before.
• You have experience working for a startup and fit that mindset.
• You know project accounting for capital-intensive businesses: construction in progress, capitalization policy, depreciation, and cost allocation across projects.
• You are highly technical. You pick up new software quickly and look for ways to use technology to take manual work out of accounting.
• You are hands-on. At our stage the Controller does the work as well as owning it.
• Bonus: A CPA, CMA, or other relevant certifications. Accounting experience in data centers, energy, utilities, real estate development, or infrastructure. Reporting under project finance or debt facilities. Experience implementing AI into the accounting processes.
