About CMC Traffic Control Specialists, Inc.

CMC Traffic is a respected, DBE/MBE/SBE-certified, minority-owned traffic control services company operating in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond since 2002. We provide end-to-end traffic control solutions, including planning, flagging, equipment rental, and sales for public works, utilities, and commercial clients. As we continue to scale, we are strengthening our financial and accounting infrastructure and seeking a Controller who can bring discipline, accuracy, and operational alignment to our financial operations.

Role Overview

As Controller, you will be the company’s senior accounting leader and a key partner to the CEO. You’ll own the integrity of our financial statements, establish strong GAAP-compliant accounting practices, ensure compliance with lender and regulatory requirements, and build a scalable accounting foundation. This role requires a hands-on leader who thrives in a services and project-based environment and can both manage day-to-day accounting operations and provide financial insights to support profitable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting, Reporting & Controls

  • Own the month-end close process and deliver timely, accurate financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
  • Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting practices.
  • Ensure balance sheet accuracy, including reconciliations, accruals, and job-cost integrity.
  • Manage union compliance, dues remittance, and related reporting requirements.
  • Oversee AR/AP functions (4 full-time staff, including a strong AR lead) and ensure clean, scalable operational processes.

Banking, Compliance & Financial Operations

  • Prepare lender and bank reporting packages; ensure covenant compliance and monitor FCCR and other required financial ratios.
  • Manage working capital, including AR collections, cash-flow forecasting, and vendor payments.
  • Maintain all financial policies, procedures, and internal control documentation.

Job Costing, Margins & Pricing Support

  • Establish and enforce robust job-costing practices that reflect labor, equipment, and overhead allocations accurately.
  • Support operations and sales teams with margin analyses, pricing validation, and contract profitability reviews.
  • Identify and correct mispriced contracts, blended labor-rate issues, or inaccurate gross-profit calculations.

Planning, Forecasting & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate on annual budgeting and rolling forecasts for revenue, labor, and operating expenses.
  • Provide financial insights on cost trends, project performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with operations, procurement, and business development to align scope, resources, and cost structures with financial objectives.

Qualifications

  • 5–12 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally in a services-based or project-based business.
  • Strong technical accounting background with deep familiarity in GAAP, month-end close, job costing, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing banking relationships, working-capital facilities, and covenant reporting.
  • Demonstrated success building or improving accounting systems, processes, and financial infrastructure.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and able to communicate clearly with non-finance stakeholders.
  • CPA strongly preferred but not required.

If you’re ready to join a dynamic, growing services company and take full ownership of a hands-on, high-impact Controller role, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply with your resume.
