What they need
About the Role
We're partnering with a global agricultural commodity trading company with a significant presence in Latin America. They're looking for an International Controller to lead accounting and financial reporting across their global operations. This is a planned succession hire, and the role is set up to grow into the VP of Accounting seat over time. It's a high-visibility position working closely with the CFO and the rest of the C-suite, leading a small, close-knit accounting team inside a finance and trade group of about 10 to 12 people.
What You'll Do
- You'll lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close for international entities and oversee global consolidations under U.S. GAAP
- You'll manage foreign currency accounting, intercompany transactions, eliminations, and settlements across a multi-entity structure
- You'll oversee accounting for physical commodity purchases, sales, inventory, freight, storage, and financing, including valuation, cut-off, and goods in transit
- You'll partner with trading, operations, logistics, treasury, credit, and risk teams, and review deal profitability and revenue recognition
- You'll maintain accounting policies and internal controls across international locations, and coordinate external audits, statutory audits, and local compliance
- You'll work with tax leadership and outside advisors on international tax, transfer pricing, and entity compliance
- You'll lead and develop accounting teams in the U.S. and abroad, and set consistent standards and expectations across regions
- You'll play a key role in an upcoming SAP implementation, along with ongoing work to improve and standardize the global close and reporting process
What You Bring
Must-haves:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience
- Several years of experience managing and developing teams
- International, multi-entity, and multi-currency experience
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, consolidations, FX accounting, intercompany, and statutory reporting
- Experience working with external auditors, tax advisors, and international finance teams
Nice-to-haves:
- Spanish language skills (a big plus)
- SAP experience, especially through an implementation
- A background in commodities, agriculture, energy, metals, manufacturing, distribution, or another transaction-heavy global business
Compensation: $175K to $250K base, plus annual bonus
