Full-time
Primarily in-office; hybrid flexibility considered for an exceptional candidate
Help lead the financial side of a growing electrical contractor. Daniels Electric Corporation is seeking an experienced Construction Controller to lead our accounting function, support HR administration, and work closely with our CFO and leadership team. This is an opportunity for someone who understands construction accounting, enjoys working closely with operations, and wants their work to influence business decisions. Based in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, Daniels Electric is a second-generation electrical contracting business with more than 100 employees. Our work spans commercial construction, service and small projects, residential, and industrial electrical work. We invest in our people, value lasting relationships, and operate our own state-accredited apprenticeship training academy. As we grow, we’re looking for a controller who can deliver reliable financial reporting, strengthen accounting processes, and help our team understand the financial performance of the work we perform.
The opportunity
Reporting to the CFO, you will lead the accounting team and own the accuracy, timeliness, and usefulness of our financial information. You will work closely with project managers and department leaders to connect what happens in the field with what appears in the financial statements. You will also assist with HR administration, helping keep employee records, benefits, onboarding, and payroll-related processes organized and accurate. Our operating systems include BuildOps and QuickBooks Online. You will play an important role in refining the processes, reporting, and controls that connect these platforms.
What you will own
Construction accounting and WIP: Lead monthly work-in-progress reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, over/underbillings, retainage, and job-cost reconciliation.
Project financial performance: Review budgets, committed costs, cost-to-complete forecasts, change orders, and margin movement with project managers. Identify concerns early and help operations act on them.
Financial reporting and close: Own the monthly close, balance-sheet reconciliations, and financial statements. Produce clear reporting that leadership can use to make decisions.
Cash flow and working capital: Support the CFO's cash-flow forecasting and oversee billing, collections, accounts payable, and payment planning.
Service and small-project reporting: Improve visibility into labor utilization, job profitability, and financial performance across our different lines of business.
Accounting team leadership: Establish clear responsibilities, develop team members, and build documented processes with dependable backup coverage.
HR and payroll support: Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, benefits enrollment and changes, employee records, and payroll coordination. Work with leadership and outside providers to administer established policies and handle employee information with discretion.
Systems and controls: Strengthen workflows between BuildOps and QuickBooks Online, improve data accuracy, and establish practical internal controls.
Planning and outside relationships: Support budgets and forecasts; coordinate with our outside CPA, banking partners, and insurance and bonding professionals.
Sister company: Perform the above roles in support of our sister company, Metro North Electric, LLC
What you bring
Substantial accounting experience, including hands-on construction or contracting accounting and responsibility at the controller, assistant controller, or accounting manager level.
Direct experience preparing and reviewing contractor WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue, job costs, retainage, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
Experience leading a monthly close and producing accurate financial statements.
The ability to work productively with project managers, field leadership, and ownership—and explain financial issues in clear, practical terms.
Strong Excel skills and experience with construction accounting or field-service systems.
A proactive approach: you investigate discrepancies, address problems, and follow through.
An organized, collaborative leadership style that builds accountability and trust.
Comfort supporting HR administration, with sound judgment, discretion, and respect for employee confidentiality.
Preferred: Electrical or other specialty-trade contracting experience; QuickBooks Online and BuildOps familiarity; experience supporting both construction projects and service operations; payroll, benefits, or HR administration experience; an accounting or finance degree. A CPA is welcome but not required.
