ABOUT US

Intermetalink Corporation imports steel pipe and tube from overseas mills and sells to distributors across Canada and the United States. Our product lines include HSS, welded and ERW carbon pipe, stainless welded pipe, fence pipe and posts, and stainless plate.

THE ROLE

This is a new position at Intermetalink, and we intend it to become permanent. We are hiring a hands-on Controller on a 6-month contract, with the goal of moving the right person into a full-time permanent role at the end of it. The contract gives you the chance to take ownership of the finance function and show what you can build.

You will manage all accounts receivable and accounts payable and keep daily bookkeeping accurate and current. You will also use AI tools, including Claude, to make our finance processes faster and more reliable. This role suits someone who understands that in an import business, getting landed cost right is what makes the numbers right.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage full-cycle accounts receivable: invoicing, collections, customer statements and cash application
• Manage full-cycle accounts payable: mill and supplier invoices, freight forwarders, customs brokers, trucking and other vendors
• Keep daily bookkeeping accurate and up to date, including bank and credit card reconciliations
• Track and value inventory in transit, in port and in the warehouse, and reconcile it to the general ledger
• Allocate landed costs to inventory: ocean freight, inland freight, duties, brokerage, insurance and port charges
• Track foreign exchange on USD purchases and sales and record FX gains and losses
• Prepare the month-end close and management reports
• Prepare GST/QST/HST filings and support year-end with our external accountants
• Use AI tools, including Claude, to automate and improve reconciliations, reporting, document handling and analysis
• Document processes so they can be maintained over the long term

WHAT YOU BRING

• 5+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2 in a controller, senior accountant or similar role
• Strong understanding of inventory valuation, landed cost and freight cost allocation, ideally in import, distribution, manufacturing or steel
• Practical, demonstrated experience using AI tools in finance work; Claude experience required
• Experience managing AR and AP end to end
• Comfort with multi-currency (CAD/USD) accounting and Canadian sales tax
• Proficiency in Excel and in accounting software [add your system, e.g. QuickBooks, Sage, Acumatica]
• CPA designation or progress toward one is an asset
• Organized, precise and self-directed, and able to work closely with the Managing Director
