What they need
*THIS POSITION IS AT A LORIENT CAPITAL PORTFOLIO COMPANY*
About the Company
The company provides managed IT, cybersecurity, managed AI and other custom technology solutions to highly regulated industries with a core focus in healthcare. As the organization continues to scale, it is investing in its financial infrastructure, systems and processes to support continued organic growth and future acquisitions.
Job Summary
As Controller, you will lead the accounting and treasury function and run the day-to-day financial engine of the business, while building the systems, processes, and team that will scale with it. The role sits at the center of a targeted investment in financial infrastructure and operational rigor, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer with a direct line to our private equity sponsor.
This is a high-visibility, hands-on seat. The accounting team is small today, and while we expect to add support as the needs of the business become clearer, it is not guaranteed in the near term. The right person is comfortable doing the work themselves: preparing entries, closing the books, and running the conversion, not only directing others to do it. You will bring the technical rigor of a Big 4 or national firm background and the operating instincts of someone who has led accounting inside a growing, PE-backed company.
The Team You'll Work With
- Chief Financial Officer, your direct manager, and the PE sponsor's finance team
- A small in-house accounting team covering AP, billing, and day-to-day transactions
- Sales and revenue operations, on billing, bookings, and commissions
- External auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners
What You'll Do
Own the Close and Financial Reporting
- Drive a timely, disciplined monthly close, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Provide the CFO and PE sponsor with accurate, timely, and actionable financial information that supports strategic and operational decisions
- Translate accounting realities into concise business insight for executive leadership and the board
Lead the GL Conversion and ERP Build
- Own and execute the GL conversion from legacy systems to Sage Intacct or NetSuite, establishing a clean, scalable chart of accounts
- Build ERP infrastructure that supports future growth and acquisition activity
- Support the integration of acquired businesses, converting their legacy GLs into a unified chart of accounts and ERP environment
Run Treasury, AP, and Billing
- Manage treasury and cash operations, including cash reporting, bank relationships, and working capital management
- Develop cash flow forecasting that gives leadership real-time visibility into liquidity
- Oversee Accounts Payable, ensuring accurate and timely disbursements, with vendor-level analytics and cash outflow trending
- Oversee billing and revenue operations, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing and collections consistent with client contract terms
- Oversee inventory management and procurement
Build Controls, Audit, and Tax Compliance
- Establish and maintain a robust system of internal controls that protects the integrity of financial data and company assets
- Coordinate and lead the annual external audit and tax reporting process as primary liaison to auditors and tax advisors
- Manage all federal, state, and local tax filing and reporting requirements
Lead and Grow the Accounting Team
- Inherit, supervise, and develop a small accounting team, staying hands-on in the work alongside them
- Plan thoughtful team additions as the organizational needs of the business become clearer
- Use AI and automation to remove manual effort from financial operations and analysis
What Success Looks Like
- First 30 days: Books stabilized. Monthly close process documented and timing accelerated. Preliminary GL conversion scoping complete. Key vendor and banking relationships inventoried.
- First 90 days: Monthly close running on a disciplined timeline. GL conversion to Sage Intacct or NetSuite underway with a clean chart of accounts design. AP and billing processes documented and improving.
- Months 6–12: GL conversion complete and live. External audit led and closed. Internal controls framework operational. Cash flow forecasting running. CFO and PE sponsor receiving accurate, timely financials on an institutional cadence.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
- 8–12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including a meaningful foundation in public accounting at a Big 4 or nationally recognized firm
- Prior experience as a Controller, VP of Accounting, or senior accounting leader within a PE-backed, entrepreneurial, or high-growth company
- Deep technical command of GAAP, internal controls, account reconciliation, and the monthly close
- Demonstrated experience leading a GL system conversion or ERP implementation with a clean, organized migration
- Experience managing across GL, AP, billing, treasury, and payroll at the same time
- Experience leading a company through its annual audit and tax compliance process
- A hands-on operator who is willing and able to do the work personally, not only build a team to do it
- Advanced Excel, experience with reporting and budget/forecasting tools, and the ability to apply AI to financial operations
Strongly Preferred
- Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct and/or NetSuite
- Experience in B2B services, IT managed services, or a related sector
- Familiarity with PE reporting rhythms, sponsor expectations, and board-level financial presentation
- Experience integrating acquired businesses into a single chart of accounts
Benefits
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, including HDHP options paired with HSA and FSA
- Competitive compensation and a 401(k) with company match up to 3.5%
- Flexible schedules and hybrid work options
- Continuous learning, leadership coaching, and clear paths for advancement
- Life and AD&D insurance, and a rewards and recognition platform
