What they need

Controller

Know the numbers. Own the process. Help build what comes next.

At Sojos Capital, we’re building businesses and transforming a neighborhood. That takes financial leadership that can keep pace with the vision - and bring the structure, accuracy, and accountability to make it work.

Our portfolio spans commercial real estate, property management, development, entertainment, hospitality, and community-focused ventures. From Alamo Drafthouse Indianapolis to the continued redevelopment of The Square, our businesses have different operating needs, revenue streams, and financial complexities.

We’re looking for a hands-on Controller who can turn that complexity into clarity. Someone who owns the close, strengthens controls, develops the team, and gives leadership reliable information to make decisions.

If you’re comfortable moving between financial strategy and the details of a reconciliation - and following through until the issue is resolved - we should talk.

What You’ll Own

Financial reporting people can trust.

  • Lead accounting operations across multiple entities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, the general ledger, bank reconciliations, and consolidations.
  • Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements at the entity and fund levels.
  • Explain budget variances, profitability, and performance trends in plain language, with clear recommendations.
  • Establish a disciplined month-end close process with defined deadlines, ownership, and review.

Cash visibility and financial discipline.

  • Oversee multi-entity bill pay, expense allocations, and intercompany accounting.
  • Partner with leadership on cash flow forecasting, funding needs, and capital allocation.
  • Support operating budgets, capital expenditure planning, and development financial planning.
  • Give leaders visibility into financial risks and obligations early enough to act.

Controls that work in practice.

  • Develop, document, and enforce accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting practices and coordinate tax and regulatory requirements with outside professionals.
  • Lead audit preparation, lender reporting, and debt covenant monitoring.
  • Identify gaps, resolve discrepancies, and address recurring problems at their source.

A capable, accountable accounting team.

  • Manage, coach, and develop accounting staff with clear expectations and measurable results.
  • Build cross-training, documentation, and review processes that support continuity.
  • Partner with Operations, HR, Property Management, and Development to improve financial accuracy and execution.
  • Strengthen systems, automate repetitive work, and build processes that can support growth.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including five years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-entity and fund accounting.
  • Experience in commercial real estate, hospitality, or a diverse operating portfolio strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, plus proficiency with accounting platforms such as Yardi, RealPage, QuickBooks, or comparable systems.
  • The ability to translate financial information into practical business decisions.
  • A track record of improving processes, developing people, and taking ownership of results.

How You Work Matters

You ask questions when something doesn’t add up. You bring issues forward early, along with a recommendation. You can hold a deadline, have a direct conversation, and work across teams without creating unnecessary friction.

You know that a report is only useful if it is accurate, timely, and understood. You also know that leading a department means building a team that can deliver consistently without executives chasing the details.

At Sojos, our IMPACT values guide how we work: Integrity, Mindset for Growth, Prioritize Collaboration, Accountability, Creativity, and Truth with Kindness. We expect those values to show up in everyday decisions, communication, and follow-through.

What Success Looks Like

During your first 12–18 months, you will:

  • Establish a reliable close process that delivers entity and fund-level financial statements within 10 business days of month-end.
  • Implement a documented internal control framework within the first 90 days.
  • Improve reporting tools and streamline bill-pay workflows within six months.
  • Lead an organized audit cycle and address control gaps promptly.
  • Build a cross-trained accounting team with clear ownership and consistent execution.
  • Provide financial insight that helps leadership evaluate profitability, investment returns, and future growth.

Why Sojos?

Your work will have a direct connection to the businesses, properties, and projects taking shape around you. You’ll have the opportunity to strengthen the financial foundation of a growing organization and help leadership determine what comes next.

If you bring financial discipline, sound judgment, and a get-stuff-done mentality, we’d like to meet you.
