Controller / CPA

Allied Packaging Corporation, an established manufacturer and national distributor of packaging products, is seeking an experienced Controller / CPA to join our management team at our Phoenix headquarters.

We are looking for a hands-on accounting professional who can take ownership of the company’s financial and accounting functions while providing management with accurate, timely financial information and sound financial guidance.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Controller, Accounting Manager, or CPA who enjoys being directly involved in the business rather than working within a large corporate accounting structure.

Responsibilities

The Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial functions of the company, including:

General ledger and financial statement preparation
Month-end and year-end closing
Accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight
Cash management and bank reconciliations
Budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Inventory accounting and cost accounting
Gross margin and profitability analysis
Fixed assets and depreciation
Sales tax and other state and local tax compliance
Payroll accounting and related reporting
Internal controls and accounting procedures
Coordination with outside tax, audit, banking, and insurance professionals
Preparation of schedules and documentation for tax returns and financial reviews
Monitoring financial trends and identifying opportunities for cost savings or operational improvement
Providing financial reporting and analysis to ownership and senior management
Supervising and supporting accounting department personnel

The successful candidate will also work closely with management on special projects and provide financial insight to support business decisions.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA strongly preferred
Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience
Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar experience preferred
Experience in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
Experience with inventory and cost accounting
Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems
Ability to analyze financial information and communicate findings clearly to management
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality
The Person We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is comfortable operating at both the strategic and hands-on level. This is not a position for someone who simply reviews reports prepared by others. The right person will understand the details, know where the numbers come from, identify when something does not look right, and be willing to dig in and resolve it.

You should be comfortable working directly with company ownership and senior management and be able to translate financial information into practical business recommendations.
