What we are looking for:-

We are seeking an experienced Controller Real Estate Accounting professional with strong expertise in real estate and property accounting, financial reporting, and accounting operations. The ideal candidate will have prior Controller-level experience, hands-on proficiency with RealPage, and the ability to independently oversee the accounting function, manage an existing accounting team and external bookkeeping providers, and report directly to the client.The role requires strong ownership of month-end close activities, financial statement reviews, account reconciliations, and accounting controls, along with the ability to ensure accurate and timely reporting. The ideal candidate should also possess excellent communication skills and be confident in managing client relationships, resolving accounting queries, and overseeing the quality of accounting deliverables with minimal internal supervision.

Job responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of real estate properties.
• Manage and review the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of accounting deliverables.
• Review financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and other accounting schedules to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Ensure proper accounting controls and adherence to established accounting policies and reporting requirements.
• Take complete ownership of accounting deliverables and independently resolve routine accounting issues.
• Oversee the work of the existing accounting team, review their deliverables, and ensure accountability and accuracy.
• Manage external bookkeeping and accounting providers, review their work, and ensure compliance with reporting timelines and quality standards.
• Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for the client and report directly to client leadership.
• Communicate financial information clearly, address client queries, and provide recommendations on accounting and reporting matters.
• Oversee cash management, escrow monitoring, and draw requests, as applicable.
• Support real estate financing activities, including bridge loan administration and rate cap monitoring, where applicable.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance reporting efficiency.
• Manage multiple priorities independently while ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality financial reports.
• Maintain effective coordination with internal teams, external service providers, and client stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Educational Qualification: A relevant degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Real Estate Accounting Experience: 5-10 years of hands-on experience in real estate and property accounting.
• GL Accounting: Minimum 10 years in GL accounting domain experience
• Controller-Level Experience: Prior experience as a Controller or in an equivalent senior-level accounting role, with responsibility for overseeing accounting operations, month-end close, financial statement reviews, and reporting.
• RealPage Expertise Mandatory: 3-5 years of hands-on experience using RealPage in a real estate or property accounting environment.
• Financial Reporting: Strong knowledge of financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, month-end closing, and accounting controls.
• Team Management: Experience reviewing accounting work and overseeing an existing accounting team and/or external bookkeeping provider.
• Client Management: Ability to interact confidently and professionally with clients, take independent ownership of deliverables, and report directly to client stakeholders.
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to resolve accounting issues independently.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly and professionally.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience managing accounting operations for commercial real estate portfolios.
• Familiarity with bridge loan administration, rate cap monitoring, and other real estate financing activities.
• Experience overseeing cash management, escrow monitoring, and draw requests.
• Experience managing third-party bookkeeping or accounting providers.
• Previous experience acting as the primary accounting contact for clients and providing financial recommendations to leadership.

You must have:

• 6-10 years of hands-on experience in Real Estate/Property Accounting.
• Prior Controller-level or equivalent senior accounting experience.
• 3-5 years of direct, hands-on experience with RealPage Mandatory.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end close, and accounting controls.
• Experience overseeing accounting operations, reviewing team deliverables, and managing external accounting providers.
• The ability to independently manage accounting deliverables and report directly to the client.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to take ownership of the accounting function and deliver accurate, timely financial reporting with minimal supervision.
