MSD is looking for a skilled Controls Programmer to join our growing team!

Are you experienced in building automation, Direct Digital Controls (DDC), and controls programming? MSD is seeking a detail-oriented Controls Programmer to develop, program, and implement building automation control systems for commercial and industrial facilities.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving, developing controls programs, and working with advanced building automation technology. You'll play an important role in designing and implementing control systems that help buildings operate efficiently and reliably.

About the Role

The Controls Programmer is responsible for programming DDC components, developing controls drawings, and supporting the successful implementation of building automation systems.

Working closely with the Controls Operations Manager, project teams, and customers, you'll develop and maintain control programs, create system graphics, verify programming functionality, and ensure systems meet project requirements.

This is a technical programming position focused on building automation systems, controls design, and system functionality.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop, program, and configure Direct Digital Control (DDC) components and building automation systems.
  • Create, modify, and maintain building automation control programs and system graphics.
  • Develop and maintain accurate controls drawings throughout all phases of a project.
  • Interpret technical drawings, system specifications, blueprints, and equipment documentation.
  • Implement programming updates and modifications based on project requirements.
  • Conduct field testing to verify programming functionality and make necessary adjustments.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve programming and controls-related issues.
  • Support complex system installations and programming activities with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with the Controls Operations Manager to plan and coordinate project activities.
  • Work with customers, contractors, and internal teams to support successful system implementation.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to customers and internal team members.
  • Assist in mentoring and developing newer employees in building automation and controls programming.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in electronic controls creation or programming.
  • 2+ years of experience with HVAC building automation controls systems preferred.
  • Tridium Niagara Certification preferred.
  • Experience programming and configuring Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.
  • Experience developing building automation graphics and controls drawings.
  • Familiarity with controls system integration, field testing, and programming modifications.
  • Strong understanding of controls programming principles and technical system documentation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop technical drawings and controls documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete programming tasks independently.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with project teams and customers.
  • High school diploma, GED, or at least 15 semester hours (22 quarter hours) of college-level education.
  • Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status.

Work Environment

This position involves both computer-based programming and on-site project work. The Controls Programmer will work with building automation software, technical drawings, and controls equipment while coordinating with project teams and customers.

Occasional work in construction or mechanical environments may require climbing ladders, accessing equipment, using hand tools, and transporting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform essential job functions.
