About the role

Cheah Shamsuddin & Ong is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Conveyancing/Legal Clerk to join our esteemed legal practice in George Town, Penang. This is a full-time position based in our George Town office. As a Conveyancing/Legal Clerk, you will play a vital role in supporting our conveyancing team, ensuring the smooth execution of property transactions and providing essential administrative and legal support.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and reviewing conveyancing documentation, including contracts, transfer documents, and related legal instruments
• Conducting property searches and obtaining necessary certificates and approvals from relevant authorities
• Liaising with clients, estate agents, financial institutions and other stakeholders throughout the conveyancing process
• Managing client files and maintaining accurate records of all transactions and correspondence
• Assisting with the drafting of letters, agreements and other legal documentation as required
• Coordinating the completion of property transactions, including the arrangement of funds and execution of documents
• Maintaining compliance with relevant conveyancing procedures, regulations and firm protocols

What we're looking for

• Proven experience in conveyancing or property law, ideally within a legal practice or conveyancing firm
• Strong knowledge of Malaysian conveyancing procedures, documentation and legal requirements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and precise legal documents
• Exceptional attention to detail and organisational abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple transactions simultaneously
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and legal management software
• A professional demeanour and strong work ethic, with a commitment to maintaining client confidentiality
• The ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with colleagues and supervising solicitors
• Familiarity with local conveyancing practices would be advantageous
• Teamworking attitude is highly preferred
