What they need

OVERVIEW:

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a creative, critical thinker with demonstrated analytical, communication, and project leadership skills to join its COO Group. This individual will work with senior members of the team and across functions to address some of the most important strategic challenges facing the firm. This role offers an opportunity to provide input on the firm’s strategy and operations in a collegial working environment, as well as considerable potential for professional growth.

WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:

As a COO Group associate, you’ll be tasked with helping to solve some of the biggest strategic questions facing our firm. You’ll synthesize data from different sources to develop recommendations, and then help drive the execution of these initiatives. Because the group’s priorities evolve continuously, you’ll face a variety of demanding business problems requiring you to research and analyze complex issues. You’ll work on various projects like analyzing and proposing new office locations, helping to drive the firm’s generative AI strategy, and shaping and helping execute the firm’s five-year strategic goals, such as the recent sale of a minority stake in DESRI, our renewable investments arm.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree or higher in any academic field, a record of professional achievement, and at least one year of comparable experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as is a willingness to take on challenging, high-impact projects. Coding and/or financial modeling skills are a plus but not required.
  • Experience managing projects and processes across functions, keen attention to detail, and well-developed analytical skills are essential.
  • Critical thinkers who can successfully drive work forward will thrive in this role.
  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $135,000 to $175,000 for applicants who have completed undergraduate or master’s degrees and $150,000 to $200,000 for applicants who have completed JDs, MBAs, or PhDs. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
