PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The COO is a key member of the SHKCP leadership team and a strategic partner to the CEO. The role owns the operating platform that sits behind SHKCP’s client franchise – leading Client Onboarding, Client Services and Business Management & Support – to deliver a consistent, institutional-grade client experience as SHKCP scales third-party capital across Family Office, Institutional and Intermediary channels.
The successful candidate will continue to drive the institutionalisation of SHKCP’s processes, governance and servicing standards, delivering efficiency through data, technology and automation, and ensure the business grows in a well-controlled, fully compliant manner.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Business Management
- Partner with the CEO to translate the SHKCP business plan into operating priorities, budgets, KPIs and scorecards; track delivery and report progress to senior management.
- Own management information and business reporting – AUM, revenue, new sales, pipeline and cost – providing accurate, timely insight for decision-making and Board/committee papers.
- Lead the operating model for SHKCP’s product segments (Deal Syndication/Co-investments, Managed Funds and External Fund Services), including feeder and Private Access structures.
- Govern pricing policy, service agreements and commercial terms with clients, GPs and strategic partners, in coordination with Legal & Compliance and Finance.
- Act as a member of the New Product Committee and support new product and strategic partnership launches end to end.
- Enable the benefits of AI tool development with the institutionisation of information across the CP business.
Client Onboarding & Client Services
- Lead the Client Onboarding and Client Services functions to deliver a seamless, high-touch client experience across FOS, Institutional and Intermediary clients – from onboarding through ongoing account management – that deepens relationships and supports repeat allocations.
- Own the end-to-end client and client-product onboarding process – KYC/AML/CDD, suitability, account opening and service agreements (e.g. referral agreements, IAA/IMA) – ensuring all operational and legal steps are completed before clients are asked to fund and overseeing closing and funding with GPs.
- Oversee client reporting, the client portal, capital call/distribution communications, RFPs and DDQs, and client queries and complaints.
- Set service standards, onboarding turnaround times and client-experience metrics; use client feedback to remove friction and continuously improve the service model while maintaining full regulatory compliance.
- Work closely with Legal & Compliance and Operations to digitise onboarding and compliance workflows (e.g. automated NDA and onboarding checks) and ensure readiness for regulatory change.
- Support client engagement and appreciation events in partnership with Sales and Marketing.
Business Management & Sales Support
- Lead the Business Management & Support team supporting the Client Solutions (sales) and Strategic Partnerships teams.
- Own CRM governance and data quality, pipeline tracking and the pipeline calendar, ensuring transparent, reliable data flow across SHKCP and the Investment Management teams.
- Coordinate the syndication process from opportunity origination through NDA, marketing, onboarding and funding, acting as the link between SHKCP, the Investment teams and control functions.
Operations, Risk & Governance
- Partner with Fund Operations, Finance, Legal & Compliance, Risk and IT to ensure robust front-to-back processes and a strong risk and control framework.
- Oversee key external service providers (e.g. fund administrators, custodians, banks and platform vendors), including due diligence and performance management.
- Support SFC and other regulatory inspections, internal/external audits and policy reviews; ensure business continuity arrangements are in place for SHKCP.
- Serve as a Responsible Officer of SHKCP and take on Manager-In-Charge (MIC) responsibilities as determined by the Board.
Transformation & Technology
- Lead operational excellence initiatives, leveraging data, technology and AI solutions to automate and streamline repetitive processes and scale the platform without compromising quality.
- Own the roadmap for client-facing and business-management systems (e.g. CRM, client portal and reporting tools).
- Given the roll out of AI capabilities, deliver new approaches to managing risk and enhancing productivity for all stakeholders.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach and develop the Client Onboarding, Client Services and Business Management & Support teams, setting clear objectives and accountability.
- Foster a collaborative, high-trust culture and act as a “span and silo breaker” across SHKCP, the Investment Management teams and group functions.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience & Knowledge
- 15+ years’ experience in asset management, alternatives, private banking or wealth management, including senior leadership as COO, Head of Operations or Head of Business Management in an SFC-licensed firm.
- Proven track record building or scaling a front-to-back operating platform, ideally in a growing or entrepreneurial business.
- Strong working knowledge of alternative investment structures (e.g. Cayman/HK funds and OFCs, feeders, SPVs, co-investments, discretionary and advisory accounts).
- Deep understanding of client onboarding, KYC/AML and the Hong Kong regulatory framework (SFO, SFC Code of Conduct, FMCC and AML/CFT guidelines).
- Experience managing SFC inspections, audits and service-provider relationships; experience as an MIC is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting a client-facing franchise serving family offices, institutions and/or intermediaries.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or a related field; MBA or professional qualification (e.g. CFA, CPA/ACCA) is an advantage.
- Licensed, or eligible to be approved, as an SFC Responsible Officer for Type 1, 4 and 9 regulated activities.
- Fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) is required.
Personal Attributes
- Hands-on, pragmatic and delivery-focused, comfortable operating in a lean environment.
- Client-centric, with high standards for quality, accuracy and service.
- Commercially minded, balancing growth with risk and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborative influencer who builds trust with senior stakeholders, clients and partners.
- Agile and curious, with an appetite for process improvement, data and AI tools.
- High integrity and sound judgement.
