We are an independent retirement community in Valparaiso, Indiana, where we celebrate life by enriching the lives of older adults. We are looking for a dependable, compassionate Cook to join our Dining Services team and help us provide delicious, nutritious meals in a welcoming, resident-focused environment.

As a Cook, you’ll prepare a variety of menu items for daily meals and special events while working alongside a supportive dining team. You’ll follow recipes and food-safety standards, help maintain a clean and organized kitchen, and play an important role in creating a positive dining experience for our residents and guests.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare soups, entrées, sides, desserts, and other menu items according to recipes and daily menus
• Prepare the appropriate quantities of food based on daily needs and tally sheets
• Assist with food preparation, including washing and preparing fruits and vegetables and preparing meats, poultry, and seafood
• Help prepare meals and menu items for daily dining and special events
• Follow proper food handling, sanitation, labeling, storage, and safety procedures
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen and work area
• Properly use and care for commercial kitchen equipment
• Work collaboratively with Dining Services and other Pines Village team members
• Provide courteous and respectful service to residents, guests, and coworkers
• Help create the positive dining experience our residents deserve

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous cooking or kitchen experience; 1–3 years preferred
• ServSafe/Food Service Sanitation Certification, or willingness to complete required training
• Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment preferred
• Ability to follow recipes, instructions, sanitation standards, and established procedures
• Dependable and able to work scheduled shifts with regular and punctual attendance
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A respectful, team-oriented approach when working with older adults and coworkers
