What they need
We are seeking an experienced Copy Editor to support a large-scale website migration to a new Digital Experience Platform (DXP). This is a long-term initiative involving the migration of multiple partner websites onto a standardized digital platform.
The Copy Editor will review and polish website content produced by the writing team before it moves to UX for implementation. The role is primarily editorial, with an emphasis on clarity, consistency, accuracy, grammar, tone, and overall content quality.
This is a strong fit for someone with a true copy-editing background who can improve content without overworking it, maintain consistency across a high volume of pages, and occasionally step into writing when needed.
This is a remote, 40 hours per week opportunity for 6 months, possibly longer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and edit website copy produced by writers before content is passed to UX for implementation
- Edit for grammar, clarity, readability, tone, consistency, accuracy, and overall quality
- Ensure copy aligns with established content requirements, templates, and brand standards
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or unclear messaging and work with writers to resolve them
- Improve AI-assisted or source-based drafts where needed
- Perform light rewriting or net-new writing when appropriate, while keeping the primary focus on editorial review
- Maintain consistency across large volumes of content and multiple partner websites
- Collaborate closely with writers, UX partners, content strategists, and project stakeholders
- Incorporate feedback efficiently and help keep content moving through the migration workflow
- Ask thoughtful questions when copy, requirements, or source information are unclear
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a copy editing capacity
- Professional copy-editing, content editing, or editorial experience (higher ed/education a plus!)
- Exceptional command of grammar, punctuation, style, voice, and digital readability
- Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the overall purpose of the page
- Ability to edit efficiently within a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
- Comfortable working within structured page templates, content requirements, and established workflows
- Able to write or rewrite content when needed, though this is primarily an editorial role
- Strong communicator who takes direction well and knows when to flag questions or inconsistencies
- Experience with website redesigns, migrations, content operations, or large-scale digital content projects is a plus
- Experience in higher education, online education, or education-related organizations is strongly preferred
