Overview

Do you love the precision and concision of the English language? Do you delight in its details, quirks, and intricacies? And can you spot the linguistic lapses and inconsistencies in vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and voice that others miss?

Words, correctness, and consistency matter!

Our work is seen by hundreds of thousands of readers. And your expertise will make a profound difference in the lives of our customers and entrepreneurs. The environment is fast paced and deadline driven, but the work is satisfying and our creative and productive team is highly organized, supportive, and great to work with!

Candidates must demonstrate that they can proofread and edit English at a professional level. A skills test and samples will be required. Must be familiar with standard office software and be able to quickly learn other programs, including Adobe Creative Cloud. Must have experience using AI-based tools or resources to enhance editing tasks. This position will help refine and modernize our proofreading processes as we evolve for the future.

This is a full-time position working on-site only.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for spelling, grammatical accuracy, and consistency across a variety of printed and electronic materials.
  • Proofread and edit magazines, catalogs, brochures, packaging, promotional materials, online content, social media, and more.
  • May also help write or rewrite the above items.
  • Responsible for understanding, contributing to, and maintaining consistency of brand and company style across product lines and materials.
  • Collaborate with and suggest improvements to copywriters and graphic designers to help create compelling copy and messages.
  • May work with marketing personnel. Basic understanding of or experience with marketing is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in English, editing, creative writing, communications, or equivalent.
  • One to four years of experience in a fast-paced creative environment is preferred.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under stress, and manage several projects at once.
  • Strong understanding of English grammar, proofreading, and linguistic rules as defined in commonly used style guides. Experience with The Chicago Manual of Style is preferred.
  • Ability to accurately edit copy, identify errors, and mark corrections according to correct English grammar.
  • Experience using AI-based tools or resources in proofreading and editing.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound understanding of the creative production process.
  • Ability to analyze problems and create solutions.
  • Ability to work professionally on your own and with teams.
  • Ability to type, use a mouse, and use other necessary computer equipment.
  • Ability to visually read documents, computer screens, training materials, etc.
  • Ability to work with software for word processing, layout, and more, including Word, Acrobat, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
