Corporate Controller

Ascension Search Partners has been engaged by private equity backed energy company who is entering into an exciting phase of growth and looking to level-up with a strong accounting leader for the business. The Corporate Controller will serve as the senior accounting professional and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and accounting operations. The Controller will have a true seat at the leadership table working directly with the company’s executive leadership team and investment sponsor on financial reporting, capital planning, and strategic decision-making. The role requires a highly capable, self-directed professional who can operate effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy, discipline, and strong internal controls.

The company maintains a lean organizational structure designed to enable fast decision-making and efficient execution. As a result, the Controller will operate with significant autonomy and responsibility.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment and be effective in toggling between both strategic and hands-on accounting functions, including detailed review and preparation of financial data, coordination with third-party service providers, and day-to-day accounting oversight.

Primary Duties:

1. Accounting Systems & Coordination

2. Reporting including internal, production reporting, and commodities reconciliations

3. Capital Calls and Investor Reporting

4. Revenue Accounting and Distributions

5. Operational Accounting

6. Production Reporting Support

8. Tax Coordination

9. Compliance Oversight

10. Key Relationships

Educational/Experience Level:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (relevant experience considered)
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred but not required
• 10+ years of accounting experience, with a significant portion in upstream oil and gas
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and oil and gas accounting practices
• Experience with private equity–backed companies or entrepreneurial environments preferred
• Demonstrated ability to manage full-cycle accounting in a lean organization
• Experience overseeing audits and working with external auditors
• Strong financial modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail with the ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with executive leadership and investors
