Correctional Officer

Summary Of Job Duties Performs a variety of tasks to support a program/facility and/or monitor the activities and well being of recreation program participants.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities Plans and leads a variety of recreational activities for youth, including arts/crafts, games, sports, music, drama, and special events. Maintains a safe and positive environment for all activities. Maintains a thorough knowledge of center policies and procedures enforces these consistently and fairly. Staffs front desk as needed and assists customers with registration and check in. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Education: High School diploma.

Experience: Six (6) months of full time or equivalent part time satisfactory, verifiable experience in a leadership role with school age children.

Knowledge: Strong knowledge of child development and recreation programming for K-10th grade. Knowledge of discipline and interacting with children in a positive manner.

Abilities: Requires excellent communication skills, written and verbal, plus problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to follow instructions, promptly and efficiently. Applicant must be reliable, enthusiastic, creative, and able to motivate and inspire participants. Applicant must have reliable transportation to the work site.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES REQUIRED: Must have current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of employment.

Selected applicant must take and pass a drug test and criminal background check as a condition of employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Light to moderate physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of fifty (50) pounds; may require frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing, may require frequent pushing, pulling, and climbing; may require hand/eye coordination to operate equipment; vision for reading, recording, and interpreting information; frequent verbal communication and hearing to maintain communication with other employees, program participants, and citizens.

Work Environment: Works primarily in a recreation facility, school, public building and park. May work both indoors and outdoors in varying types of weather with exposure to noise, dust and sun.

Equipment Used: Typical recreational equipment appropriate for a given activity; Computer for registration and check in.
