Cost Accountant (Construction)

Duties

• Perform detailed cost accounting analysis to monitor project expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities
• Prepare and interpret financial reports, including budget forecasts, variance analyses, and project cost summaries
• Utilize ERP systems such as SAP and accounting software like QuickBooks and Quicken to record, track, and reconcile financial data
• Conduct balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and general ledger accounting to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP standards
• Manage cash flow analysis, accounts receivable, and account reconciliation processes to support healthy project finances
• Collaborate with project managers to develop accurate budgets, forecasts, and cost estimates for ongoing construction projects
• Ensure adherence to SOX compliance controls and maintain meticulous documentation of all financial transactions

Skills

• Strong understanding of financial concepts including GAAP, double entry bookkeeping, and technical accounting principles within the construction industry
• Proficiency in accounting systems such as SAP, ERP platforms, and business intelligence tools for data collection and analysis
• Expertise in financial report writing, spreadsheet management (Excel data analysis), and financial analysis techniques
• Experience with cost management strategies, cost accounting analysis, and budget forecasting specific to construction projects
• Excellent data analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex financial reports and identify trends or discrepancies
• Knowledge of public accounting practices combined with experience in corporate or manufacturing finance environments is highly desirable
• Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements and internal control procedures within finance functions
