Cost and Estimation Engineer

Role & responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for accurate and comprehensive product costing of hydraulic cylinderscovering raw materials, machining, fabrication, assembly, testing, and overheads. This role requires close coordination with the Design, Production, and Sales teams to ensure cost competitiveness, design feasibility, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain detailed cost sheets for hydraulic cylinders based on design and customer requirements.
• Estimate costs for raw materials (tubes, rods, seals, fittings, etc.) and related manufacturing processes.
• Evaluate and estimate machining, fabrication, welding, heat treatment, surface finishing, plating, and assembly costs.
• Perform cost comparisons for in-house versus outsourced operations.
• Analyze supplier quotations to ensure cost competitiveness and quality.
• Collaborate with Design and Production teams to validate manufacturability and optimize designs for cost efficiency.
• Support the Sales team in quotation and tender costing with accurate pricing inputs.
• Conduct variance analysis between estimated and actual costs, identifying corrective actions.
• Monitor cost trends in materials, labour, and overheads, maintaining an updated costing database.
• Ensure adherence to target profit margins and company pricing strategies.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to reduce manufacturing costs without compromising quality or performance.

Preferred candidate profile

• Education: B.E. / Diploma in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
• Experience: 28 years in product costing, preferably in hydraulic cylinders, heavy engineering, automotive or precision manufacturing industries.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, welding, honing, chrome plating, and assembly.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/SAP systems for costing and data analysis.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings (CAD) and customer specifications.
• Strong analytical, cost optimization, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional coordination abilities.
