What they need

Reporting to the Project Controls Lead, the Cost Controller will take hands-on ownership of the financial performance of multiple live construction projects. As part of an expanding Cost Control team.

This is a delivery-focused commercial role, ideal for an experienced cost controller who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is confident managing cost control, forecasting, cashflow, and financial reporting across several projects simultaneously.

Following an initial onboarding period to become familiar with PCH Civil’s systems and processes, you will independently manage project financials and deliver clear, executive-ready reporting to the Directors and Executive Leadership Team.

What This Role Is

  • End-to-end financial ownership of multiple live construction projects
  • Hands-on cost management, forecasting, cashflow, and client claims
  • Maintaining and defending cost-to-complete and forecast final cost positions
  • Explaining month-to-month movements, risks, and opportunities
  • Preparing and presenting monthly project financial reviews to Directors and Executives
  • Working closely with project delivery teams to support successful outcomes

What This Role Is Not

  • A scheduling or planning position
  • A role focused on designing, implementing, or owning company-wide controls frameworks, governance models, or systems architecture

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full financial ownership of multiple concurrent construction projects
  • Own and maintain approved project budgets, including managing and explaining movements between original budget, current forecast, and forecast final cost
  • Track, review, and report all project costs, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, and overheads
  • Develop, maintain, and defend detailed cost-to-complete and forecasting models
  • Assess and quantify the financial impact of variations and project changes, ensuring impacts are reflected in forecasts and client claims
  • Prepare and submit client payment claims and actively manage project cashflow
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities and clearly communicate them to senior stakeholders
  • Support delivery teams with accurate, timely commercial information to influence outcomes
  • Maintain strong commercial discipline and accurate financial records

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in cost control or project commercial roles within construction or resources
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills essential, including financial modelling, forecasting, and analysis of large datasets
  • Strong commercial judgement and high attention to detail
  • Experience using ERP and project costing systems
  • Confidence communicating financial performance to senior leadership

Exposure to Power BI or data analytics tools is beneficial; however, this role focuses on using reporting tools, not developing or owning enterprise-level reporting systems.

Professional certifications (e.g. CCMP, CMA, or similar) are advantageous but not essential.

About You

You are a highly motivated, delivery-focused professional who:

  • Proactively and efficiently completes work to meet business needs
  • Performs well under pressure and manages competing priorities effectively
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with a range of stakeholders
  • Is results-driven, with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency
  • Is highly organised and capable of managing multiple tasks with changing deadlines
  • Takes initiative in identifying issues and implementing practical solutions

Why Join PCH Civil?

At PCH Civil, you’ll work in a high-performance, delivery-focused environment where commercial rigour matters and your work has a direct impact on project outcomes. You’ll partner closely with experienced leaders and project teams and play a critical role in the financial success of our projects.
