Costing Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate product costing for sofas, chairs, recliners, and other upholstered furniture.
• Calculate material, labour, overhead, and manufacturing costs to arrive at the overall product cost.
• Develop and maintain BOM (Bill of Materials) and costing sheets for new and existing products.
• Estimate consumption of key materials such as fabric, leather, foam, wood, plywood, hardware, springs, adhesives, and other components.
• Coordinate with Design, Production, Purchase, Quality, and Sales teams to gather accurate cost inputs.
• Analyze vendor quotations and material prices and incorporate the latest rates into costing.
• Conduct cost variance analysis between estimated and actual production costs.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization without compromising product quality.
• Review product specifications, drawings, and construction details to assess their impact on cost.
• Support the development and costing of new products and customized furniture.
• Maintain accurate costing databases and ensure timely revision of costs based on changes in material prices, processes, or specifications.
• Assist in setting appropriate selling prices and margins by providing reliable cost data.
• Monitor wastage, material consumption, and production efficiency to identify cost leakages.
• Prepare regular costing reports and management MIS as required.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of product costing and cost accounting principles.
• Good knowledge of BOM, material consumption, labour costing, overhead allocation, and variance analysis.
• Understanding of upholstered furniture manufacturing and its components will be an advantage.
• Strong MS Excel skills, including formulas and data analysis.
• Good analytical and numerical skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to understand technical drawings, product specifications, and manufacturing processes.
• Strong coordination and communication skills.
• Ability to work with large volumes of data and meet deadlines.
• Commercial awareness and a strong focus on cost optimization.

Educational Qualification

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Candidates with relevant experience in manufacturing costing may also be considered.
