What they need
Fantastic opportunity for a junior litigator ready to move in-house and build on their litigation skills while developing a much broader practice.
Pye Legal Group is assisting a longstanding client with the search for a Legal Counsel to join its small, collaborative legal department in Houston. We know this team particularly well: we placed the other lawyers in the department, and they have built a supportive, business-focused environment where attorneys take on meaningful responsibility and work closely with company leaders.
This is also a chance to join a company outside of the energy sector.
The lawyer in this role will handle a diverse range of matters, with particular emphasis on litigation, employment issues, investigations, operational counseling, and risk management, while also gaining exposure to contracts, corporate transactions, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and real estate matters.
This role is especially attractive for a litigator who wants to work more closely with the business and develop into a well-rounded in-house lawyer.
What You’ll Do
- Advise business and operational teams on day-to-day legal issues, including compliance matters, commercial activities, and operational claims.
- Handle litigation and pre-litigation matters and work with outside counsel as appropriate.
- Counsel the business on employee relations matters, performance management, terminations, and other employment issues.
- Lead and support internal investigations and assist with employee policies, procedures, ethics, and compliance initiatives.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including vendor, supply, licensing, SaaS, services, joint venture, and real estate agreements.
- Support corporate transactions and strategic business initiatives.
- Advise on data privacy, risk management, regulatory compliance, and related matters.
- Work closely with business leaders on special projects and emerging legal issues.
What We’re Looking For
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. bar; Texas licensure preferred.
- Approximately 4–6 years of legal experience.
- Strong litigation experience, preferably developed at a well-regarded law firm.
- Experience with employment matters and commercial agreements strongly preferred.
- Excellent writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- A practical, business-minded approach to legal advice.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships throughout the organization.
- A collaborative, proactive attitude and genuine interest in expanding beyond a traditional litigation practice.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is a rare opportunity to move in-house while continuing to use your litigation skills and gaining hands-on experience across employment, contracts, compliance, privacy, transactions, and operational matters. Because the legal department is small, you will have significant exposure to the business and the opportunity to develop quickly as an in-house generalist.
The company also has a strong reputation for work/life balance and a positive, collaborative culture.
