Crate Builder

Why Fargo WoodworksFargo Woodworks builds heirloom-quality furniture by hand — conference tables, executive desks, reception desks and sideboards that ship to offices across the country. Every piece is made to order right here in Fargo. Nothing is mass-produced, nothing is outsourced, and nothing leaves this shop that we wouldn't put in our own homes.

We're growing, and we're building the kind of shop people want to stay at: clear standards, real ownership of your area, and the equipment and system to do the job right the first time. If you take pride in your work and want to get better at it, you'll do well here.

About the Role:
Builds every shipping crate that protects a Fargo Woodworks piece on its way to the customer. You own crate material, sizing, cutting, and build, and you work ahead so shipping is never held up. It is rough carpentry with real consequences: the crate is the only thing standing between a handcrafted table and a cross-country truck.

What You'll Do

• Manage crate material inventory
• Calculate crate sizing
• Cut all crate components
• Build crates start to finish
• Prep tops and braces
• Label and stage crates
• Use scrap efficiently

What We're Looking For

• Basic rough carpentry and confidence with a saw
• Solid measuring, math, and the ability to work from a cut list
• An instinct for what makes a structure strong
• You plan ahead instead of reacting
• Experience helps, but we will train the right person. Reliability and attitude matter more to us than a resume.

What Winning Looks Like in This Role

• Crates are built and staged at least three days before shipping needs them, so no shipment ever waits on you
• Every crate is sized right and strong enough that the piece inside arrives exactly the way it left
• You run your own material inventory and never get caught short
• You use scrap smart and keep waste low
• Nothing is last minute, because you plan your week instead of chasing it

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift and carry 50 lbs on your own, and team-lift heavier tops and slabs
• On your feet and moving for most of an 8+ hour shift
• Regular bending, reaching, kneeling, and some overhead work
• Comfortable in a working shop with dust, noise, and seasonal temperature swings
• Safe use of hand and power tools, with required PPE (safety glasses and hearing protection)
• Repetitive lifting and carrying of lumber, sheet goods, and built crates

What We Offer

• Health insurance
• Paid time off
• Steady, year-round full-time work — we're growing, not seasonal
• Real ownership of your area, not just a task list handed to you
• Training and room to grow — as we grow, we promote from within
• Work you can point at: furniture built to last generations, shipped nationwide

Who Thrives Here

• You take pride in what you build and you care how it turns out
• You show up on time, every day, and people can count on you
• You'd rather own your area than be told what to do all day
• You speak up when something's wrong instead of passing the problem downstream
• You want to get better at your craft, not just collect a paycheck
• Straight talk: this is real work at a real standard. If you're looking to coast, this isn't the shop for you.

We review applications on a rolling basis and reach out within a few business days. A shop tour and a working interview are part of our process, because we want you to see the place before you commit.
