About STooPS Art & Community
STooPS Art & Community is a Brooklyn-based 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating public, community-rooted art programming that brings artists and neighbors together. Started as a response to the gentrification of BedStuy, Brooklyn, STooPS Art & Community was birthed in 2013 by Founder/Director, Kendra J. Ross with the vision to make art accessible while valuing creators and honoring the local. STooPS creates opportunities for community building through workshops and showcasing interactive, multidisciplinary art on neighborhood stoops, sidewalks, and storefronts. We reinvigorate outdoor spaces and the iconic brownstone stoops in honor of their legacy of communal care, networking, rest, and social activism.
About the Role
STooPS is seeking a Creative Producer to help bring our programming to life from first concept through day-of execution. Working closely with our Founder/Director, this person will manage the logistics, budgets, production teams, and community partnerships that make our events possible. This is a great fit for someone who loves the mix of creative vision and operational detail: someone who can dream up an event with an artist in one meeting and negotiate an equipment rental in the next.
What You'll Do
Programming & Planning
- Collaborate with the Founder/Director to shape the creative vision and logistical plan for all programming
- Lead monthly brainstorms on logistical considerations for proposed events, including artist spaces and general equipment needs
- Suggest artists based on organizational values and budget considerations
- Assess artists' supply, audio/visual, technical, and space requirements
- Manage relationship and coordinating logistics for Educational workshops and programs
Production & Team Management
- Develop key production documents:
- Master Production schedule and timeline
- Run of Show
- Event logistics and planning
- Volunteer deployment plan
- Operations guides and info sheets
- Hire and manage day-of personnel, including production/stage managers, production assistants, and community liaisons
- Hire and manage event production team
- Source and rent technical equipment based on budget and venue feasibility
Community Partnerships
- Build relationships with community entities and partners, including homeowners, community organizations, and business owners
- Help secure community partners for artists by identifying artists' particular interests and connecting them with appropriate community partners
- Identify small businesses in Bed-Stuy and help form and cultivate relationships with them
What We're Looking For
- At least 3 years of Experience producing events, public programs, or art/cultural programming
- Strong budgeting and vendor/contract management skills
- Comfort hiring, briefing, and managing freelance production staff
- Excellent relationship-building skills, with genuine interest in community engagement work
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple moving pieces at once
- Familiarity with Bed-Stuy and/or Brooklyn's community and arts landscape
- Collaborative, low-ego working style — comfortable both leading logistics and supporting others' vision
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- May be required to lift and/or transport heavy objects
- Travel by car, bus, train or airplane may be required for production and execution of public events. Valid driver’s license is a plus
- Noise level exposure in work environment may be moderate to loud
- Evening and weekend work required regularly
- Must be able to work in inclement weather, when necessary
How to Apply
To apply, send the following to Kendra J. Ross at
- Resume or CV with relevant work experience, including details on events produced
