Due to increasing business levels, we are looking for an experienced Credit Controller / Office Administrator to join our friendly and busy administration and accounts team.

Please only apply if you have previous Credit Control experience within an office environment.

The Role

This is an active and sometimes demanding Credit Control position. It is not simply an administrative role.

A significant part of your working day will involve contacting customers regarding overdue accounts, resolving payment disputes and following outstanding balances through until payment is received.

You will need to be confident having difficult conversations when required, while remaining professional and maintaining good customer relationships.

The successful candidate should be comfortable managing a busy workload, working to deadlines and taking responsibility for their own customer accounts.

Alongside Credit Control, you will support the wider office and accounts team with general administrative duties.

Key Duties

  • Chasing overdue customer invoices by telephone and email
  • Building professional relationships with customers to encourage prompt payment
  • Maintaining accurate records of all credit control and chasing activity

  • Investigating and resolving disputed invoices
  • Negotiating payment arrangements where appropriate
  • Reconciling customer accounts
  • Allocating and identifying customer payments where required
  • Liaising with sales, accounts and other departments to resolve customer queries
  • Ensuring agreed monthly deadlines are met
  • Updating customer account information accurately
  • Supporting the administration/accounts team with general office duties
  • Answering telephone calls and responding to customer enquiries when required
  • Working as part of a team

Experience Required

The successful candidate should have:

  • Previous Credit Control / Finance experience – essential
  • Previous experience working within an office/accounts environment
  • Confidence chasing customers for outstanding payments by telephone and email
  • Good account reconciliation skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence dealing with customers professionally
  • Good Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
  • Experience using accounting or ERP software

Experience using systems such as Merlin would be beneficial, although training can be provided on our systems.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Confident and professional on the telephone
  • Friendly but firm when dealing with overdue accounts
  • Reliable and organised
  • Accurate with numbers and customer accounts
  • Comfortable working in a busy office environment
  • Able to manage their own workload and priorities
