What they need

Speirs Gumley is looking for an experienced Credit Controller to manage and pursue a portfolio of residential and commercial client accounts.

We’re seeking someone with at least 2 years of experience in credit control and preferably a familiarity with the following areas:

  • Scottish Legal System: Debt recovery and enforcement action (including Simple Procedure, Ordinary Actions, and enforcement of Decrees)

  • Insolvency: Trust Deeds, Bankruptcy, and Liquidation
  • Property Factors (Scotland) Act 2011: Including the principles and requirements of the Act and the Code of Conduct 2012
  • Commercial service charge accounts

The ideal candidate will be confident and assertive, with strong communication skills and the ability to handle stressful situations diplomatically and empathetically. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume billing environment, both as part of a team and independently when managing specific project caseloads. A background in property management would be a plus, but it’s not essential.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Outbound calling and emailing to pursue arrears
  • Performing scheduled reminders and targeted actions
  • Reviewing daily payment postings and updating client accounts
  • Handling inbound calls and email queries from clients, solicitors, and other third parties
  • Providing debt reports to the property management team
  • Identifying debts that may be irrecoverable and raising them with the Head of Credit Control
  • Regularly meeting with the Property Management team to discuss any cases of concern

What can you expect in return?

  • Supportive team environment
  • Modern, open plan office location
  • Opportunities for training and personal development
  • Company pension
  • Company events
  • Early finish on a Friday
  • Dress down Fridays

The role is office based at our office in Rutherglen and hours are Monday -Friday 9am to 5pm but with a 4pm finish on a Friday. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and is keen to take ownership of their workload.
