Salary: £28,000 pro rata

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive, organised and detail-oriented Part-Time Credit Controller to join our Finance team at CIM.

In this role, you will take ownership of an allocated sales ledger, ensuring customer payments are collected promptly, invoices and receipts are accurately allocated, and outstanding debts are managed effectively. You will play an important role in maintaining cash flow, reducing aged debt and building positive customer relationships through professional and effective communication.

Working closely with colleagues across Finance, Training, Sales, Business Centre and Customer Experience (CX), you will investigate payment issues, resolve account queries and help ensure our credit control processes run smoothly and efficiently.

What you’ll be doing:

Credit Control and Debt Management

  • Take ownership of an allocated sales ledger, proactively managing outstanding balances and ensuring payments are received within agreed terms.
  • Contact customers by telephone and email to chase overdue invoices and secure payment.
  • Investigate and resolve reasons for non-payment, including invoice disputes and account queries, working collaboratively with internal teams.
  • Monitor agreed payment plans and follow up to ensure customers meet their commitments.
  • Identify potential bad debts and financial risks, escalating concerns to the Revenue Manager where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of debt collection activity, customer communications, disputes, payment commitments and agreed actions.
  • Support initiatives to reduce aged debt and improve overall collection performance.
  • Assist with internal and external audits as required.

Cash Allocation and Reconciliation

  • Ensure customer payments are allocated accurately and promptly to the correct customer accounts and invoices.
  • Investigate unidentified or unallocated cash, liaising with customers and internal colleagues to obtain the necessary remittance information.
  • Support the processing of customer refunds in line with internal controls and authorisation procedures.

What you’ll bring:

You will be an organised and commercially aware individual who is confident managing customer accounts, chasing outstanding payments and resolving queries professionally. You will have excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage your workload effectively while maintaining accurate financial records.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in credit control or accounts receivable, including responsibility for managing an allocated sales ledger.
  • Proven ability to chase outstanding debts proactively and secure payment within agreed terms.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to discuss overdue invoices and payment queries with customers professionally.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when maintaining financial records and customer accounts.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • The ability to learn new systems and adapt to changing processes.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different departments.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience using CRM, finance, sales or training management systems.
  • Familiarity with customer procurement and payment portals.
  • Experience using online invoicing platforms.

If you have previous credit control or accounts receivable experience, strong communication skills and a proactive approach to debt collection, we would love to hear from you.

What you’ll get:

  • 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro rata)
  • Pension contribution scheme
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Life assurance scheme
  • Dedicated wellness initiatives and wellness hub that supports your wellbeing (including EAP)
