Criminal Solicitor

Location: King’s Lynn

Experience / Qualification: You will be a qualified solicitor or CILEX with at least 1 year PQE

Salary: Dependant on experience and PQE

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (part-time can be an option if preferred), out of hours work may be required on ad-hoc basis

Holiday: 25 days + Bank Holidays (pro rata if part-time)

Education/qualification requirements

• Solicitor with between 1 year to 10 years PQE (there is no upper limit regarding the amount of experience and applications are invited from even the most experienced candidates)
• Duty solicitor qualification (we have in-house PS reps, so the emphasis will be on advocacy in the Magistrates Court)
• Valid Practicing Certificate at time of application

Job role/Responsibilities

• Undertaking Magistrates court hearings of all types
• Trial preparation and advocacy
• Able to conduct all court duty matters, including NGAP, GAP, remand, Youth & non-CPS courts
• Providing expertise to clients, court advisors, barristers, other third parties
• Completing legal aid applications
• Achieving costs/fees targets
• Covering all aspects of criminal law work, you will provide technical expertise and guidance to team members and external clients
• Independently managing your own casework, liaising with clients, providing advice over the phone, by email and in person. Analysing large volumes of legal information at speed and with a high level of accuracy. Working to strict deadlines, logically and methodically with a meticulous eye for detail.
• Taking a professional, proactive approach to work, with a strong client care focus. Dealing with vulnerable clients in a sensitive manner.
• Preparing and drafting documents including proofs of evidence, witness statements, responses to CPS applications and processing evidence.
• Maintaining confidentiality of information relating to clients, colleagues and other third parties.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Experience in advocacy
• Understanding of criminal legal aid costing
• Demonstrates a positive, friendly, flexible, and capable manner, and can build relationships quickly
• Able to work as part of a team whilst also managing own caseload
• Works ethically and sensitively to support vulnerable individuals
• Has strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Has excellent time management, organisational and computer skills as well as case management systems
• Strong client facing skills, able to deal with queries both verbally and in written format, in a jargon-free manner
• Is able to ensure a high level of service with existing clients in order to secure repeat business
• Stays up-to-date with the latest relevant legislation, policy changes and changes in the Law
• Remains efficient and productive under pressure
