Crossing Guard

Overview

Join our team as a Crossing Guard and play a vital role in ensuring the safety of pedestrians, especially children, at busy intersections and school zones. This paid position offers an opportunity to contribute to community safety by managing traffic flow, assisting pedestrians, and adhering to strict safety protocols. As a Crossing Guard, you will be the friendly face guiding students and residents safely across streets, fostering a secure environment for all.

Responsibilities

• Safely direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic at designated crossing points, especially during peak school hours or high-traffic times
• Assist children, parents, and community members in crossing streets safely while maintaining a vigilant awareness of surrounding traffic conditions
• Monitor traffic laws and ensure compliance by drivers and pedestrians alike, intervening when necessary to prevent accidents
• Use proper safety equipment such as reflective vests and stop signs to control traffic effectively
• Report any safety hazards, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions to appropriate authorities promptly
• Maintain clear communication with school officials, law enforcement, and community members regarding safety concerns or incidents
• Follow established safety protocols rigorously and participate in ongoing training on traffic control procedures and emergency response

Requirements

• High school/GED Diploma
• No felony convictions and/or disqualifying criminal history
• Legal working status in USA
• Ability to stand for extended periods outdoors in various weather conditions
• Strong understanding of traffic laws, safety protocols, and pedestrian rights-of-way
• Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, drivers, and colleagues
• Prior outdoor work experience preferred; familiarity with traffic control safety protocols is a plus
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and decisively while maintaining a positive attitude
