JOB DESCRIPTION CSSD TECHNICIAN

• POSITION: - CSSD TECHNICIAN
• DEPARTMENT: - CLINICAL
• REPORTING TO: - HEAD NURSING SERVICES.

Job Summary

The CSSD Technician is responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. The role ensures that all sterile supplies required for patient care and surgical procedures are processed according to infection control standards and hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cleaning and Decontamination

• Receive used surgical instruments and medical equipment from operation theatres, wards, and departments.
• Perform proper cleaning and decontamination of instruments using manual or automated methods.
• Segregate instruments according to type and sterilization requirements.

2. Sterilization Process

• Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ETO sterilizers, and plasma sterilizers.
• Pack and wrap surgical instruments and sets according to hospital standards.
• Ensure proper loading and unloading of sterilization machines.

3. Quality Control & Monitoring

• Monitor sterilization cycles and parameters (temperature, pressure, and time).
• Maintain sterilization records and documentation.
• Perform biological and chemical indicator tests to ensure sterilization effectiveness.

4. Storage and Distribution

• Store sterile supplies in a controlled and clean environment.
• Maintain proper labeling and expiry dates of sterile packs.
• Distribute sterile instruments and materials to the OT, ICU, wards, and other departments as required.

5. Equipment Maintenance

• Check sterilization equipment for proper functioning.
• Report malfunctioning equipment to the biomedical department.
• Ensure routine maintenance and cleaning of sterilization machines.
