Title: Custodial/Grounds

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds

Employment Status: This is a 260/261 day position, with an 8 hr. day plus 1/2 hr., unpaid lunch.

Qualifications: 1. Valid driver’s license; good driving record

2. Willingness to work and assume responsibility, conscientious, develops and improves his/her proficiency

3. Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record

4. Ability to organize several tasks and manage time in a productive manner

5. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent

6. Must pass a physical examination

7. Must have a minimum six months experience in

custodial work and grounds keeping

General Description: Grounds keeping and maintenance as assigned by supervisor

Essential Functions:

1. Skills in basic fields of carpentry, plumbing and electrical

2. Ability to operate all district equipment such as, but not limited to tractors, mowers, spraying equipment, fertilizer spreader, and hand tools

3. Must have or be willing to obtain a boiler operator’s license

4. Must possess an exceptionally strong mechanical aptitude and ability

5. Must be able to maintain service records as required

6. Must be able to write requests for vehicle repairs and accident reports

7. Must be familiar with OSHA regulations

8. Must be able to lift 40 pounds over head and up to 70 pounds for grounds work

9. Must have good motor coordination, finger and manual dexterity, and physical ability to perform all of the essential functions of the position

10. Must be able to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding

11. Must be able to lay out sports fields such as baseball, football and soccer fields

12. Water lawns, mow grass, seed and fertilize lawns where necessary or as per schedule

13. Use a blower to remove leaves

14. Plow snow

15. Remove ice from sidewalks

16. Clean sidewalks of any debris

17. Monitor district grounds and remove all debris such as leaves, paper, and other litter as weather permits

18. Dig ditches as required

19. Perform minor painting responsibilities

20. Trim tree branches, cut trees with chain saw, and remove tree stumps

21. Mark parking lots

22. Put up snow fences

23. Patch holes in parking lot areas

24. Prepare and perform all landscaping responsibilities such as, but not limited to trimming hedges, maintaining flower beds, removing weeds

25. Maintain swings and all playground equipment

26. Any other groundskeeper/maintenance responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor of maintenance and grounds

27. Fuel Vehicles

28. This position requires flexible hours - work shift hours will vary greatly. Winter months will be mostly night work and summer months will be day.

29. Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor and/or Superintendent.

Those duties normally are of general intent and are not to be construed as limited, specific duties covering day-to-day operations.

Terms of Employment: Twelve months work days and hours will be flexible as established by the Maintenance Supervisor. Salary as set forth by the negotiated agreement.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of non-teaching personnel.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings;

2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values; and

3. Conducts other duties related to the groundskeeper/maintenance duties as assigned by the supervisor of buildings and grounds

Additional Working Conditions:

1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue

2. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions

3. Occasional interaction among unruly children

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.70 - $19.99 per hour
