Custodian

Southern Plains Education Cooperative is seeking a full-time, year-round Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, and well-maintained Cooperative buildings and grounds.

This position is responsible for daily cleaning, routine maintenance, groundskeeping, building safety, and supporting a positive learning environment for students and staff, including those in a Level 4 special education setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting, dusting, window cleaning, and trash removal.
• Complete routine maintenance tasks, including replacing supplies, light bulbs, and batteries, operating floor scrubbers, painting, and minor repairs.
• Maintain building grounds, landscaping, and outdoor areas.
• Assist with room arrangements, furniture moving, event setups, and cleanup.
• Support building safety and security, including monitoring building systems, inspecting equipment, and identifying or reporting safety concerns.
• Build positive relationships with students and staff, support student job skills, and communicate student-related concerns to appropriate staff.
• Complete required documentation and assist with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Some experience in janitorial work or related duties.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Specialist's license or ability to obtain within one year.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, and work cooperatively as part of a team.
• Ability to work professionally in a special education setting with students who have a variety of behavioral and support needs.
• Dependable attendance, flexibility, and a professional work appearance.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, year-round position. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Flexibility may be required to meet student, staff, and building needs, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends.

The position requires walking, standing, carrying materials, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional business travel may be required.

Pay: $17.50 - $21.00 per hour
