Custodian, Part-Time

Description Under general supervision, performs moderately complex technical and para-professional engineering duties; coordinates the allocation of resources to projects; performs a variety of technical work involving the design, construction, maintenance and management of projects. Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Supervises and/or prepares construction plans for small-scale public works projects.

Computes land, earthwork, and other quantities for assigned construction projects.

Performs field and office work related to property or right-of-way.

Performs routine checks of survey, parcel and final maps for compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, and survey practices.

Inspects and evaluates various phases of construction, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school; and one to two years of progressively responsible related experience, or a combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Licenses and Certifications: Valid State Driver's License.

Knowledge Of

• Principles and practices of mathematics through trigonometry.
• Basic surveying terms and practices, basic principles and practices of civil engineering.
• All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
• Basic construction terms and practices, basic principles of drafting and plan layout.

Skills And Abilities

• Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
• Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
• Communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project plans.

Salary: County positions have a five-step salary range. Increases, which are based on merit, are scheduled annually until the top step is reached.

Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance: The County and the employee share the cost of an employee selected health care plan.

Holidays: Mendocino observes 11 paid holidays per year. In addition, each employee is granted 24 hours of personal leave time upon the successful completion of the probationary period.

Life Insurance: Coverage of $20,000 is provided by the County.

Sick Leave: Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of 1.25 days per months, or 15 days per year.

Vacation: Accrues at the rate of two weeks per year for three years. Three weeks per year after three years, four weeks after eight years and five weeks after 15 years.

Retirement: Covered under Social Security and the 1937 act, both employees and the County pay into the retirement fund.
