Custodian/Maintenance Worker

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and respectful Custodian/Maintenance Worker to join our church team. The ideal candidate will take pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our congregation, staff, pastors, and visitors. This role requires not only strong custodial skills but also the ability to work respectfully and discreetly within a church setting, recognizing the importance of the building as a place of worship and community. Duties include commercial cleaning, floor care, and general maintenance, ensuring that all facilities are well-kept and ready for services, events, and daily activities.

Hours

• Monday 8AM - 3PM
• Tuesday 8AM - 3PM
• Friday 7AM - 2PM
• Hours may vary in certain cases.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors to maintain cleanliness.
• Conduct thorough custodial duties in all areas of the church, ensuring they are sanitized and presentable at all times.
• Clean and maintain the church’s commercial kitchen, including equipment, counters, floors, and storage areas, following proper sanitation procedures.
• Maintain facilities by performing minor maintenance tasks as needed, contributing to overall building upkeep.
• Execute buffing and floor care procedures to enhance the appearance of surfaces.
• Assist with industrial cleaning projects as required, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Set up, support, and clean up for church services, meetings, and special events, including food events — such as bringing out pans of food, serving food, and ensuring all food areas remain clean and safe.
• Act as a porter by managing waste disposal and replenishing supplies in restrooms and common areas.
• Respond promptly to cleaning requests and maintain a proactive approach to facility cleanliness.
• Willingness to obtain a food handler’s card (cost covered by the church) to meet food service requirements.
• Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and discretion when working in a place of worship and around congregants and visitors.

Experience

• Prior custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience in a church, school, commercial, or similar environment preferred.
• Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, floor care techniques, and safe use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
• Experience cleaning and maintaining commercial kitchens, including appliances, counters, floors, and storage areas, following sanitation guidelines.
• Familiarity with event setup and takedown, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment.
• Basic maintenance and repair skills for building upkeep.
• Ability to follow cleaning schedules, respond to immediate requests, and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated professionalism, respect, and discretion in a place of worship or community setting.
