Description of responsibilities:

The Customer Care Technician is responsible for reading and recording water meters, inspecting meters and related equipment, and reporting defects or signs of tampering throughout Capital Region Water’s service area. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with schedule adjustments as needed.

• Read monthly water meters and accurately record readings.
• Inspect meters for defects, leaks, damage, and signs of tampering; document findings and report discrepancies.
• Replace meter batteries, meters, and related equipment as needed.
• Lifts manhole lids with the aid of a manhole hook and sets up pumping equipment to remove water, when necessary. Access meter pits and vaults following confined-space procedures.
• Respond to customer requests and provide notices and information regarding billing, compliance, and required property access.
• Maintain work orders and records using asset management and utility billing systems.

Required experience:

• Two years of continuous work experience.
• Experience working with the public in a professional and effective manner.

Required skills:

• Ability to accurately record information and perform basic math calculations.
• Ability to interpret GPS data and learn street locations and the water distribution system.
• Ability to maintain accurate records, follow instructions, and learn applicable computer systems.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and maintain regular, punctual attendance.

Required Education:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.
